Leliana's Song is a prequel that provides Leliana's backstory. The Hero isn't present.
Darkspawn Chronicles is a one-off, "what if" scenario where you play as darkspawn trying to defeat the Hero of Ferelden. Don't recall if there is character import, but you won't be playing as your character anyway.
- Dragon Age: Origins
- If I've taken Leliana and pursue her quest, I do Leliana's Song after dealing with Marjolaine but before completing the main game. If not, I don't bother with it for that run. There are nice rewards for doing it.
- Darkspawn Chronicles -- Now for this one, understand that the entire thing is a "what if you didn't come along?" to the main game. It's a break in continuity. I find it's nice to step away from the story for a bit though before pushing through the rest. Really it can be done at any point (preferrably after you've played the main game at least once), I just do it here as a break.
- Awakening
- Golems of Amgarrak
- Witch Hunt
To your ending question, yes, there is importing.
