Hi earl gamer (earl), this is ZDuke17, and I will try my best to help you.

1. When installing dau service setup and daou update addins, make sure to run it as administrator. (Right click the exes and click the "Run as Administrator")

2. Enable Inbound rules for anything Dragon Age Origins, Updater, and Ultimate edition via Windows Firewall:
- Use Windows shortcut keys Win + R to launch Run.
Type wf.msc into the dialog box and press enter.
- Once the window appears for wf.msc, which should read on the top of the new window as "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security", click anything labeled with "Dragon Age", and click "Enable Rule" to the right of the Inbound Rules list.

3. Windows key + R to open the Run app, type "Services.msc" in the dialog box, enter, look for "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater, right click, and click "Start".

Note: If you know of other ways to access either Services or Firewall Advanced Secruity, feel free to do your own method of accessing them.

4. Run the game in Compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). The game has a variety of issues running on modern Windows operating systems, 7 and up. To run the game in Compatibility mode, go to your games install/binship folder, right click "DAOrigins.exe" or "DAOrigins", and click the option in the pop-up menu "Properties". In the "DAOrigins.exe Properties" window, click the tab labeled "Compatibility", click the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and select "Window XP (Service Pack 3)" in the drop down box under "Run this program in compatibility mode for:

If in need of further assistance, let me know, and I will reply as soon as I am able. If you use mods, please provide a list of such mods, and method of installing them as well.

Did you try running those two applications from installation folder? Those will add DLCs.

I tried the above and nothing worked. When switching to Windows XP, the game just would not launch at all unfortunately.

You mean bin_ship or redist folder?

What I am worried about is that you tried this in Origin. It may have reset something, if you tried to activate the game and codes there.

I posted this, because this is indeed the way to open the content. No other methods are required AND they can sometimes prevent you from actually activating DLCs.

Try clearing obsolete registry entries. (Automated process of CCleaner, or similar tool you know and trust.)
- Run game once.
- Then run those files.

Edit: Before you do any of that, try running those files as administrator.
- Right click the file.
- Run As Administrator.

I am not really sure what you mean. I have done clean installs and use your method on both Origin and Steam.

I apologize in advance for the large text wall, it really is not as bad as it seems, trust me.

Custom player&NPC hairstyles, custom player morphs, custom player classes, custom specializations, custom locations that your inside of on the save, and npc apparel custom replacers would be the issue. Ex: Your player character had all these, the character would most likely be naked, mushy faced, and bald. Same can go for certain npcs. The game would tell you it can't load your game if your character used an entirely new class from a mod, and was at a custom location at the time of the save.

Before we take the steps into uninstallation, there could be maybe one last thing to check:

Enable Inbound rules for anything Dragon Age Origins, Updater, and Ultimate edition via Windows Firewall:
- Use Windows shortcut keys Win + R to launch Run.
Type wf.msc into the dialog box and press enter.
- Once the window appears for wf.msc, which should read on the top of the new window as "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security", click anything labeled with "Dragon Age", and click "Enable Rule" to the right of the Inbound Rules list.

If you know of other ways to access either Services or Firewall Advanced Secruity, feel free to do your own method of accessing them. If this doesn't solve the issue in your present install, continue to the following instructions below:

Uninstall the game, delete all leftover folders/files inside Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age folder except for Character folder to keep your save games, delete all leftover game install files as well, and reinstall the game. After installing the game, do the following over again:

1. Go to your game install folder, open the folder named "redist", and run "DAUServiceSetup_Steam.exe" as Admin. To run as Admin, right click the exe file, and click the option in the pop up menu "Run as administrator".

2. Go the the same redist folder in 1., and run "DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam.exe" as Admin.

Ex. : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\redist

3. Windows key + R to open the Run app, type "Services.msc" in the dialog box, enter, look for "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater, right click, and click "Start".

After that is done, I recommend doing the following if you haven't already done so before:

(Note: If you were already going to do this after install, you can skim it to my conclusion.)

The Affinity Fix for Origins: The game was designed for older lower count core cpus compared to modern cpus. Using modern cpus by default with Origins often results in strange glitches, crashing, and bugs in the game. WIth the following link to a guide, you'll be able to tell the game to only use 1 core of your cpu so the game runs as it was designed to be ran. Resulting in better stability. Skim the guide to the section labelled "Frequent random crashes" and follow the instructions. By all means, try doing the other fixes mentioned on the guide if you wish too. You can't go wrong either way: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=260437327

The LAA Patch for Origins: Origins amount of Ram/Memory that it can use is limited due to it being an older title. With the Patch, you'll be able to enable the game to more amounts of RAM/Memory for better stability. A link to the guide detailing the method of install. I recommend just installing the pre-patched exe, but if you wish to do it manually, go right ahead: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233222451

Quinn's Ultimate Fix Pack: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4689

This mod above will fix a variety of issues within origins, including strange glitches, and crashes.

Run the game in Compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). The game has a variety of issues running on modern Windows operating systems, 7 and up. Running the game in Compatibility mode will help ensure better stability, along with the LAA Patch, and the Affinity fix. To run the game in Compatibility mode, go to your games install/binship folder, right click "DAOrigins.exe" or "DAOrigins", and click the option in the pop-up menu "Properties". In the "DAOrigins.exe Properties" window, click the tab labeled "Compatibility", click the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and select "Window XP (Service Pack 3)" in the drop down box under "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".

It is recommended to do all of the four for max stability for the game. So after doing everything mentioned in this great wall of text, everything should be good. If not, please let me know, and we will try something else.

The quote above is from another discussion similar to this, I know you have already done possibily most of what is mentioned, but try doing all of it in the exact order from start to finish . It may possibily result in better results then prior attempts. Thank you for your cooperation thus far, I really do appreciate it. I know very well, and understand how frustrating this all must be for you. If in need of further assistance, let me know, and I will reply as soon as I am able.

The ultimate guide is bad now as social.bioware.com is gone.

You (and everyone else) can download the DLCs here for free:

Thanks. Seems to be valid and working link at time of writting this post. Might be confusing for someone to find actual download links.
  1. Click on "Jump to" link for Dragon Age
  2. Click on "+ View more" link. That will reveal actual download links
  3. Browser dependent, but for most it will be easier to right click on "PC" link and choose "Save as" to start download. Some browsers/AV software might not let you to download executable files otherwise.

Some of DLCs are quite large, 2.8GB to download all of them.
