Personally I have always just camped on the door, preventing anyone from running forward. My team used ranged weapons to deal with enemies and then turned to melee - with my main tank using threat gathering abilities - to counter her melee attacks.

She runs back to her safe spot soon enough. I prevented my crew from following, switched back to ranged weapons and spells to keep thinning her supporters. She was easy to kill, once she was alone.

you mean run back to the door you came in , it shuts when you enter the room so you cant leave

I am not running back. Just staying in front of the closed door and keeping my crew grouped there, to prevent them from running in to crossfire and traps.

Here's how I did it in my playthrough. (43:29) Normal difficulty.

I went with two mages (Hero of Ferelden and Wynne), tank (Alistair) and rogue (Zevran).

This playthrough I'm doing right now (Hard), I tried to keep my party in the "main" area of that room, and I had Alistair (Tank) and Leliana (DW) deal with Jarvia and any other melee. I had Morrigan (with the Spellshaping mod) cycle through her big AoEs like Blizzard and Tempest right in the middle of the room just for the constant CC/Damage (it burned her mana pool real good though, so I popped quite a few potions on her). While my PC (Archer, and his name is Archer XD) dealt with the enemy ranged. And if I could, disarm a trap or two, just in case one of my own decided to run up (which they did).

I was actually surpised I got it on my first try, with no deaths too. Blizzard + Spellshaping is really strong.
