Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Do not buy this game, DLC cannot be activated as of February 2018
Steam is responsible for massive false advertisement for selling the ultimate edition of this game. When you purchase the game and try to activate the DLC you will be taken to a broken website that is no longer active, meaning the game cannot be activated.

Steam is responsible for breaching the contract I agreed to when purchasing this game, which did not include requiring me to download origin to activate DLC, as there was no origin when I bought this game.

Gamers beware, you can't just buy games on sale anymore and wait a few years to install them or you may run into problems like this.

And people wonder why the PC gaming industry has been dying, at least with a console games I pay for work without 2 hours of online troubleshooting which is what you recently have to do with just about anything purchased on Steam.

You do not need the third party website. Steam comes with all files. You will only need to run two applications from installation folder.

This information is "hidden" in pinned topic and the most visible post (mine) in Google.

Are you absolutely sure, those programs you speak of, the two in the redist folder both tell you to go to the website that was just deactivated and register the key, which can't be done.

Since they did that you also lose all the freebies they gave as prepurchase rewards...

Unless something has changed in last 4 weeks, neither of those will tell you to go in to third party site. I just recently tested this with new computer and new Win10 installation.

That's what I'm saying, in the past 4 weeks biowares activation website is gone.

I just also realized, you can get "Dragon age Origins: Promotion pack" on orgin, but that is not available on the steam version because the bioware site is gone.

So maybe what the game is telling you is wrong, and that they've changed it so that the downed website isn't necessary, but you still cannot get the extra goodies on the steam version now.

You never needed Bioware actication website for Steam content. Steam version is standalone, when it comes to content in Ultimate Edition. You never needed to sign to other page.

I just posted a reply to another thread, asking Windows Event Viewer data (once again) to troubleshoot this problem. I can't reproduce the problem.

However, I am also starting to promote GOG version of the game. It seems to have least amount of issues. I still want to figure out why some players have issues with Steam version, but third party site - which was never required - shouldn't be an issue.

I think GOG is probably the way to go in the future, but can you get the promotion pack that gave you all the things people got for preordering?
Ilja Feb 21, 2018 @ 4:24pm
You can get most from GOG. I am unsure of promotion pack items, because they were originally split. GOG installation allows you to get all DLCs and open packs - more than either Steam or Origin can offer - that were originally released by Bioware.

Just so you know then I just watched someone do it, in case you do any guides. Origin gives you the promotion pack items in one download. I don't know about how necessary those items are, they just appear to be weapons, rings, and things of that nature.

I guess I need to start learning about GOG and other services. I once believed steam was a place where you could just buy anything on sale and go back 10 years later and play it if you wanted to. It doesn't seem to be the case though, anything that has an online depedency will have these issues, websites die, servers get shut off, and some of the steam library I own that I haven't played yet probably won't be playable for this reason by the time I get to it.

The problem here is that Steam and EA had a fallout, related to distribution of Dragon Age II DLCs. EA pulled DA II from Steam after that. They later closed Bioware Social site (which they bought) and shut down services.

Steam is working with license they have. They bought license to distribute the whole Ultimate Edition, but other content is out from their reach. It was EA's decision to shut down Bioware Social site. They do have a new site, but it is not connected to DA:O from Steam and GOG as it used to be.

I bought the game, i didn't have the DLCs the first startup. Then i went to sleep, started it up again. And i had the DLCs.

Well its not that they shut it down its just at a new location. And the link in game does not go to the new page. But as the others where saying if you bought it on steam, all the dlc auto load and you can see that in the in game menu.

Origin is the only way to go if anyone runs into this. You get free DLC not available to anyone on Steam or GOG. Specifically the pre-order bonuses various companies gave away.
