Magic stands its ground really well but projectiles still need other back up.
I recently played as a dwarf noble.
I did heavy weapons and focused on usable attacks over the buffs.
To focus on traits like lock picking I would use a companion like Zevran or Lillian.
I always had Morrigan for magic support too.
Honestly the DLC gear you start out with and get early on is fantastic for a warrior.
The only builds I can recommend are the tank build (One Hand+Shield specc’d with Templar and Champion) and the DPS build (Two-handed specc’d with Berserker and Reaver). Unfortunately, Warrior PCs get the shaft since the game throws more warrior party members at you than any other class, meaning any niche you can build for is already filled.
Dual-wield Warriors trump two-handers in terms of damage output, even moreso if you pair up with Bard (Leliana) and use Song of Courage to buff damage & crit% even higher.
Plus being a warrior you're solid as a front liner. Great for a "party leader". Once you get into awakening, then go spirit warrior at that point you're basically unkillable.
