This itself is a big advantage. Arcane Warrior types are sort of classes that you either need to preplan for combat, or take a full advantage out of the fact that any armor suits for you mage now. That is the power of the first stage of Arcane Warrior build. If you want to remain there, then you can spare yourself from casting most protection spells and use armor with high fatigue and regeneration bonuses.
If you want to actually go in to physical contact, then you will pretty much needs to develop further in to Arcane Warrior build options and develop your protagonist toward more combat oriented character at the same time.
