Question: Restricted inventory items
What can I do with them if they are not something I can use?

I am a Dalish Elf, I have items only mage's can use for example. I also have herbs and magical items that Morrigan could use. Is there any way to give these to her? Or is my only option to sell them to a merchant to make room in my inventory for new items?

It depends on what they are. If Morrigan or Wynne have the Herbalism skill, and you've acquired the right recipes, they can use things like elfroot and deep mushrooms to make things. Weapons and armor that can only be used by one character have to be equipped by that character to be any good. To equip these items on the character, just go into the Inventory screen, select the right character, and equip the item. For example, in order to equip Marjolain's Recurve, a unique bow that only Leliana can use, go into the Inventory screen, select Leliana, and then equip the bow. Gifts and gag items can be given to the right character in the inventory screen.

(have them in your party also in order to do the crafting just set it as a ability and use them)
Class restricted consumables, like stamina draughts or lyrium potions, can be placed in their quickbars.

I always put thought into my secondary skills and making my NPCs learn skills I do not have, so doing that well helps you balance your party, it is harder at first because you lack all the NPCs to choose from, but that does not really matter as none of their skills (or yours) will be high enough to make a difference. Its the same with buying reciepes, some are harder to get, so you sometimes have to buy them when you can, even if none of your toons can make that potion yet.

Most of that comes with re-playing and knowing what is where. But for the first half of the game, (mostly) You do not really need to worry about it. You will have morgan to learn what skills you lack, and Lehana with her rogue skills. So if you take you, lehana and morgan and divide the secondary skills between the three of you, (so different secondary skills) You can start early on a balanced team.

Do you have a community chest for storage? ... if there's still something that you don't need at the moment. There are mods that add that.
Camp storage chest. First mod I added, since I'm such a packrat.

This is my first play-through, so I want to play the game without mods. I will probably mod it in future play-throughs. Thank you all for your help. Much appreciated.
That's perfectly fine. Play it how you want.

Honestly, that was the only mod I had my first time through. Since then I've added skip the fade, lock bash, character respecialization, extra dog slot.

Character respec should be in game ... that is so vital.
Like when you get trounced by Flemeth ...being able to load the save getting there, use the respec for your character to give yourself as good a chance as possible to win. Without having to play half the game to make up for several bad level up choices.
