Is it okay to play this on Easy?
Normally, I find Easy to be a crutch for being a crappy player, but given the difficulty of this game, I'm considering throwing on Easy Mode. Should I expect the same Dragon Age, but less difficult for those who aren't experienced in Dragon Age's strategies, or should I expect a complete neutering of difficulty, making this an insult directed at people who aren't that good at Dragon Age?

There are a few differences when playing on easy mode, one thing is that friendly fire doesn't damage your team mates like it does in other modes, which can be deadly if your mage is trigger happy with nukes.
Also enemies will do less damage to you. I wouldn't say it nerfs the game I switched to easy after dying many times to some bosses before playing in normal & now in hard mode.

Playing on easy will give you a good idea on how to set combat tactics & how to control your party members so don't feel bad about playing on easy, you can always change it to normal whenever you feel like you want to take off easy mode. Think of it as a sort of practice mode if you're new to this sort of combat system.

You're welcome,I know the feeling of how frustrating it can be when your party is losing over & over. I died to the ogre boss at least 4-5 times before I managed to finally beat it.

It's best to mess around with the combat tactics menu & set up your members to how you want them to act. So for example you can set your ranged attackers to only use archery skills & to stay far back to avoid getting in range of aoe attacks like spells which can wipe your party out very quickly.

no shame in easymode, and trust me there are some encounters where you even wish you could set it even lower. remember that tentacle boss ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over so hard that I just blatantly cheated my way along it because I didnt have a save with proper hp or items s.s :DD

No, best mode is Nightmare. But, if you do not feel confident about Nightmare, choose 1 step down difficulty. You will have GREAT funn with it. I promise.

Honestly, this game is the only game I've ever said "screw it" to and played on Casual. Even then, there were some fights I still struggled with. I think it comes down to my reluctance to really learn the mechanics because I just don't like the combat at all. I've played this game three times for the story, and the third time I just cheated my way through. Didn't have that problem with 2 and Inquisition because the combat was way more accessible for losers like myself.

Of course it's okay to play on easy. Play at the level at which you're comfortable.

It's fine to play on easy, buuut you'll find the game gets pretty boring pretty quickly. Combat will turn into something that you just rush through without any thought, an inconvience, but on harder difficulties it becomes about managing the challenge.

I would suggest reading tactics guides and looking at how people manage the hardest difficulty before reducing the difficulty to the point where combat is boring, repetitive and pointless.

I guess "easy" is fairly relative, but if you're needing to cheat to get through normal then your tactics are probably bogus.

Playing DAO on easy is understandable for your first/second playthorough. The game can be pretty challenging.

For first playthrough, I would strongly recommend playing on normal at the very least, or you can get in the bad habit of badly managing mages (arguably the most important and most micro-intensive class), and so that you actually have some incentives to learn how to fight (and to an extent, build your characters and party) effectively. Some fights are definitely difficulty on normal if you go into them unprepared, underleveled, undergeared, and/or unaware. Even fewer are straight up hard, but usually have several specific ways of being dealt with with great ease.

I remember the first time I played and came across that first ogre on normal. Got my ass handed to me a few times because I wasn't going about it right and had the wrong stats and gear. Now, whenever I start up a new nightmare game, I know it's easier starting as either a mage and CC'ing the dammable beast, or utterly ruining it with a rogue. I also know that it is rarely worth it to have the main character be a warrior because of a number of reasons that mostly boil down to damage output being more important than trying to tank.

Anyways, I am getting off the point here. If you are struggling with the combat in normal, it is probably your fault. I do not mean this in a derogatory manner. A lot of people simply are not familiar with the kind of CRPG combat systems that DAO's combat is based on. But unless you are playing purely for the story with no care of the combat (which is some peoples; thing), you are not doing yourself any favors by playing on easy.

It's all right to play any game on easy - no matter what other people might say. Your game - your rules.

If you dislike self-improvement, challenge and what not, then by all means you should play all games on easy

Fewer elitists than I expected in this thread, not bad! Easy mode in this game isn't "just the story" difficulty, you can still die if you don't take care of the big threats in a fight first etc. When you have a firm grasp of how the game system works and how to set up effective tactics for your followers then you can bump up the difficulty.
