RISK Factions

RISK Factions

Ver estadísticas:
Faction Uniqueness?
"Five unique factions with different strengths:

Play as the Human, Cat, Robot, Undead, or Yeti army!"

What exactly are the different strenghts of the factions? Can't seem to find the info in-game...

I can't recall the factions having different strengths, looks like they got away with a lie...

I don't think there is any difference between the factions strengthwise.

so, they did get away with a blatant lie on the store page?

just to clarify, i know it's a risk game and the armies work the same way, but both risk showed ways of asymetric play(star wars risk and others), and other games in the same vein showed how to *tweak* the armies(axis&allies's national advantages).

I'll write to steam support and hope to get this wrong advertisement removed -_-
too late for me i suppose but at least others can be prevented from falling for this.

Did you not read any of the reviews available online before you bought it? Because nearly all the reviews I read knocked the game for the different factions being nothing more than differing animations. It's $10 and it's Risk. If you wanted to play a game other than Risk (which the game is a reasonably good adaption of) why would you bother buying it?

because it was the last day of x-mas sale, and there was plenty of interesting stuff, some i had to read up on(especially e.g. sword of the stars II or king arthur, both of which i had some catching up to do in regard to their current state), and others that were more "straightforward".
Risk is a game concept i am well familiar with, so i did not see much reason to check out how it works. I expected a risk game, i GOT a risk game. Nothing wrong that far. Except that the main selling point, to me, was "different factions" being included. A factor that would let me tailor the playing experience to my liking, and vastly increase replayability, if done right.

Just as example: In Civ V, there's rather small "differences" between the factions while all play according to the same rules, still interesting to retry with a different approach now and then.

So, yeah, i did not check up on it for the simple reason that it's a computer-game-version of a well-known concept, that used wrong advertisement, or more accurately, a blatant lie on it's store page, and i had more checking up to do on the day i bought it.

As for why bother buying- i wanted risk with replayability. I got boring 0815 risk. Theres a lot of difference.

when they say diferent fractions they mean the fractions are different not strong in one point and weak in another

Yeah, thats my problem with the store page, straightly quoted:

"Key Features:

Five unique factions with different strengths:

Play as the Human, Cat, Robot, Undead, or Yeti army!"

What they "say" and what they "mean" is utterly different from each other.

It "should" be:

Key Features:

Five identical factions with unique artwork for each:

Play as the Human, Cat, Robot, Undead, or Yeti army!

The non-classic ruleset is pretty wildly unbalanced, if kind of fun. Whoever manages to get the defense die objective first has a pretty overwhelming advantage for the rest of the game, both because of how the defender wins ties and because it makes it very easy to hold on to the temple which is pretty much a guaranteed win if you keep it for more than a round or so. Also, the AI is retarded.

I agree, it advertises unique strengths which is an outright lie. Hasbro bought the rights to Risk and their although the new factions mode is pretty fun, they've done a really crappy job of remaking the game, patching its glitches or doing anything to keep people interested enough to have an online community playing it. My main reason for buying was to play other people online but there are absolutely no games going on a friday night.

Guess their mindset going into making a $10 game is to make sure it's not worth any more than $10 as far as playability goes. Not to mention their 'random' dice battles get glitched sometimes and you'll lose your 20+ army to one defender. Wish they'd sell the rights or get off their asses and make the amazing game of Risk more enjoyable so we'd have people to play against.
