Failed to Initialize/DirectX11 and DDI Version Troubleshooting
UPDATED 8/25/17

Hello everyone, I have an update for today! First, I have to say that both we and the devs deeply apologize for the trouble with the game. We are constantly working on updates to fix bugs, which will be posted on our Beta Branch before going live. The devs have been working on the DX11 problem and found a few solutions to common problems. The game now officially supports DX10, but the "Failed to Initialize Game" errors or an error that prevents the game from starting up are far less likely on DX11 and DDI11.

So, if you've got DX11 and a fresh graphics card driver installation and the problem persists, here are some possible solutions!

Fully update Windows. Always a good idea to be running the most updated version of the OS you're running (update KB2670838 and {LINK REMOVED} is often the culprit). The developers have confirmed that KB2670838 could cause problems and uninstalling that update might also be a solution.

Manually install DirectX. From the game's installation folder, _CommonRedist\DirectX\[date, usually June 2010] will contain an executable called DXSETUP.exe. Try running that, and if the problem persists, update DirectX {LINK REMOVED}.

Controller problem. The game may not be reading Direct Input correctly, if you are playing with a controller. {LINK REMOVED} needs to be in the game's installation folder.

ASUS Gamer OSD. {LINK REMOVED} and prevent the game from launching.

Leftover driver files. Sometimes, old driver files get left behind when you update. If possible, uninstall Yomawari completely and uninstall your graphics driver completely (I use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove programs and CCleaner to erase old registry files). Then, install the graphics driver and install Yomawari. This could mean that you have to update DirectX again!

Compatibility Mode. Try running the game in Compatibility Modes for different versions of Windows, starting with Windows 7.

Installing the game on another drive. The developers suggested that a potential workaround to the problem is to uninstall the game and reinstall it on a different hard drive, if possible.

And that just about covers it...phew. Please, let us know if this still isn't doing the trick (or treat...heh...sorry, couldn't resist the Halloween temptation).

Happy Halloween!
Alex

The devs have also pointed out that the system locale might affect results.

1. Control Panel -> Region
2. Administrative tab -> Change system locale
3. Change either to English (United States) or Japan
4. Restart PC and the game
This might cause an issue to other applications so if it doesn't work make sure to change back to the original setting.

Sorry Alex but I have tried all of your solutions to date and still receive the error message with the game failing to load. I have disappointlingly requested a Steam refund as the game looked so good and I was keen for the soundtrack and art book as well :steamsad:

Today's Beta Branch build (12/01/16) should fix a lot of the current startup/DX problems. Try it out, doods!

Will do and let you know. Steam denied my refund anyway :steamsad:

Could you please post your computer specs along with your dxdiag information? It would really help find the problem!

Hey dood, sorry to hear that! It may be a problem related to Windows 7 and/or your processor's graphics. Could you check your DDI version specifically (this is found in the details of dxdiag). Updating Windows 7 service packs and/or {LINK REMOVED} might help you!

I was in the beta yesterday (28 Dec) and finally I could run the game on my desktop computer (on my laptop it has always run just fine). I played for an hour or so with no problems (windowed, 1260x720).

But with the last update (29 Dec) I get the same error as Tiana 726. I cannot play anymore - on my desktop. I opted out of the Beta just in case but it does not open - beta or not.

I know my desktop computer does not meet the minimum requirements, but yesterday I could play it in this machine.
Hey digitalina! Right now we are tweaking some things with DirectX. We'll let you know more soon!
digitalina Jan 4, 2017 @ 2:47am
Thank you very much. I can play the game on my laptop computer, and it runs smoothly. But my laptop (also Windows 10) has a 8 gb ram, and a nvdia geforce card (840M I think). My desktop is seven years old. I never reallly think it could manage Yomawari.
