BUT it is also said to break aero and some fonts on websites, as well as preventing some amd/intel hybrids to boot (solved with KB2834140), non progressive jpeg to not display (solved with KB2836502), and might break fraps. Most search results do not recommend the installation.
No way I'm installing this. If Yomawari does indeed require DX 11.1, then sorry, I'll give up on this game. Trully a shame, probably the only game that interested me in months.
Quoted from multiple sources :
"Portions of the “DirectX 11.1 Runtime" are being made available on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 via the Platform Update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB 2670838)"
"KB2670838 - Platform update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 = breaks AERO functionality and gives you blurry fonts on some websites"
Well, that sucks. I disabled Windows Update for unwanted updates like these so if this game really requires a 11.1 and higher, to the refund it goes. :|
But there are some people on Win10, which is in DX12, experiencing the same issue, right?
Well, you are not included to "some" of them.
Yep. Not working here.
If you don't want to update your PC, that's fine, but there's always that note and warning that, hey, things might not be working as intended if you decide to do that. Windows Updates have never been as well-vetted as in recent years, and even if something slips through, the bug gets patched within a day. Especially Windows 10 is pretty much proof against trouble of the sort, due to the Windows Insider rings beta-testing all updates.
Keeping your system outdated assures that the deelopers are unlikely as all hell to be able to reproduce your exact error without putting in a whole lot of time and effort that they could have instead spent on troubleshooting more wide-spread problems or adding quality of life improvements.
And for the record, it is not a blanket problem with the game. This seems to affect specific setups, drivers or a lack of prerequisites. I've been playing it just fine on Win10 since Beta, my girlfriend had no trouble finishing the game without crashes, and nobody else I personally know (who all do the normal system maintenance) had errors to report.
If you're running Win10, make sure you're up to date and open the command prompt with administrative rights and run "sfc /scannow". That should start a System File Check and will tell you if your system is corrupted, and if so, it will attempt to fix it automatically, which works in the vast majority of cases (and if not, there are a few more advanced ways to do it yourself).
So I have to update my Win7 to make ONE game to run? I have like hundreds of applications and games and there is this one little cute game that won't run. I don't think that game is the most sophisticated and demanding game in my library. :|
My system specs are:
+ Windows 7 SP1
+ Intel Pentium G870
+ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Before installing this, I tried the following without getting immediate result:
- Repaired Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable using installer bundled in _CommonRedist folder
- Repaired Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable using freshly downloaded installer[www.microsoft.com]
- Installed DirectX from _CommonRedist folder
- Updated video drivers
I confirmed that I have the KB2670838 update now, but I didn't get the negative side-effect which were discussed here (problems with Aero theme and browser font rendering) – maybe I just didn't encounter them yet, would post an update if that is the case.
Thanks to the devs/publisher for pointing out this solution, and good luck to everyone who still has this problem.
You have a point, I get it, but time has proven to me that when you are in a stable OS state, letting windows handle things tends to lead to more problems than solutions, especially when you don't have problems to begin with. Well, current situation reveal that I lack an update, sure, but as Nurrygamer pointed out, this is the only lack of an update I have in years. Not to mention this is an optionnal update, I'm not even sure windows update would do it on its own.
Then again, if I were to keep myself up to date, remember that there was win 8 before 10, with its share of stupidity/uncompatibility/problems. Maybe win 10 is good, idk, but 8 was as much of a fiasco as vista has been, so as long as I don't really need to switch to 10 for whatever reason (atm forza and halo are not sufficient reason enough tbh), I won't.
