Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2

How scary is Dead Space 2?
I am not really a Horror genre fan, althought I do think that the suspence is really fun and would provice a great thrill, for some reason I'm afraid to play games likes this. But I want to give it a try since its on sale. So I just want to know how scary is DS2, I've played Dead Island 1 and 2 (love them both) and some other "horror/thriller" games like Metro Last Light and a few other games like that. Think i'll be freaking out every moment in the dark? Thanks in advance.

Probably. Dead Space 1 and 2 were pretty good at generating the scares.
I don't think Dead Island or Metro even compare (on a horror level).

Yeah that's what I figured. I'm downloading Dead Space 2 now, can't wait to play it. It sucks that you cant play a game on steam while downloading another. It always pauses the download

You can just alt tab out and continue the download manually.

I'm right at the start of DS2, and it is definitely freaking me out. Combat is so horrifying and visceral, that you feel panicky whenever the necromorphs start dropping in. There was an early scare involving a wheelchair creaking past that gave me a little meltdown. Dead Island is not really a horror game at all (it's more like L4D/L4D2 in being a team-based zombie-hunt). Metro had a few freaky moments, but mostly just combat-panic. So far, DS2 has had some of that old terror of horror movies.

Also, I never knew you could get downloads going manually like that. Thanks for the tip, Lance!

Heh yea this game is scary but fun...but I dont like how they give you every weapon and armor for free...kinda kills the game a bit for me..

and so if your playing a steam game you can just alt tab out and resume the download? didnt know that

its ♥♥♥♥ scary, and hard to beat unless you do it on casual, but epic as hell

It's less scary than dread inducing. On a second playthrough you'll come to reach levels where you'll shiver in anticipation and have to steel yourself for the onslaught you know is coming.

I've played about an hour so far. It takes quite a bit for something to catch me off guard, and so far, Doom 3 was scarier, at least to me. But, I don't have much of DS2 in the bank yet so I've got a long way to go before I can make a good comparison.

The things that really get to me are when necromorphs show up and somehow two or three of them spawned behind you and you had no idea. That makes me jump haha.

And I didn't know you could manually download while playing a game either, that's awesome!

Just a reminder to everybody to play the game on Hardcore once you feel you've trained enough. Permadeaths will make it 300% more scary.

i think i posted this earlier but when i bought this on sale it came with like all the weapons..so it feels like im cheating

Just ignore them. I think a true Hardcore run (or run in general) would involve never using them.
