So I'm new to this series and only have a bit of time in Dead Space 2. It's pretty early on and I just got to this room where there's a holographic gear icon that when activated allows me to "hack" into the system, to open the locked door (which is alternately opened via another holographic door access panel in the room but whatever).

So for this hacking thing: you move the little pie slice around the circle until you find a blue highlighted portion then you click. Simple, except much of the time half or a quarter of the circle goes black and completely hides the pie slice I'm rotating around and I can't see anything. I have to try it multiple times for it to actually show me a total of three blue sections. One time I died cause I got shocked/failed too many times. How the f am I supposed to complete the little minigame when half the inner circle goes black and I can't frickin see anything?

When you do successfully hack, an enemy comes running through a door. He's in slow motion at first cause the game is telling me about a stasis gun and what key to press to use it ("aim at the enemy and press [key]"). Well, fine, but pressing that key does nothing. I don't have a stasis gun. I have about time for two shots until he kills me in one hit. After about 6 or 7 times of the same thing happening (me dying) I gave up. I are confuse

The stasis module is what Isaac pulls out of the machine panel he's hacking. You've somehow got the wrong key mapped to it or something so it's not activating.

Yeah I wondered if it was the key, it was 'C' at first (default?) and that also is stomp so I thought maybe there was a conflict. Rebound it to one of my mouse buttons and didn't notice a difference; nothing happens when I press it. Maybe I'm too dumb for this game. Or it's late and I should just go to bed

It is definitely it's own key and not like a 2nd action on an interact button. It only does stasis. You can do eeet

Sounds like a graphics glitch. Do you have a screenshot?
And yes. You need to stun the enemy before it is "killable". It's the tutorial for the stasis.

Thanks for the help. I was definitely just being stupid for part of it, after dying again I realized maybe I need to hit the "aim" button... yeah shocker, it works. Sounds stupid but again, I'm totally new to this series and haven't played much of this one at that. When I read "aim at enemy" I think "put your crosshairs over the enemy" not press a button. I guess if it would've said "press the aim button" I would've gotten it immediately. Oh well I'm dumb.

But yeah, the blacking out of that hacking circle definitely still happens. If that is a glitch that's kinda weird cause I haven't seen any other glitches in this game, or any other game that I play. Got a 3060 with updated drivers, though I don't have the absolute latest from a week ago.

That parts where it is black look like when you are in the "middle" with the cursor.
Imagine an invisible cursor on that field. The triangle only appears when you are on the outside.
This hacking minigame will come up more often so you can try it there.

So I'm moving the cursor out of the circle, basically, when I need to keep it in there? I definitely wasn't doing it fast (says to move it slowly). I figured you'd be "locked" in that circle basically. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

The invisible cursor is locked inside the circle but you can move it in the middle and there the triangle will not appear.
I guess you use a controller because with a mouse it feels very natural (at least for me). Could also be because i have done that minigame lots of times.

For example you have the triangle on the left and move the mouse to the right the triangle disappears and reappears on the right.

Also: you can do it very fast. If you just move around, it is hard to miss the "good" spot.
