and Google etc.
That means that dropping the original exe into the game folder still works on Steam.
Be sure to reset your controls to default, even if you didn't change them. That's something we found long ago where it would bring up the weapon select menu for all movements. Reseting fixes that.
I updated the PCGaming Wiki with those details. Thanks to [PL] kamil950 for sharing that.
Woohoo!
I had read that the Origin version had this junk patched in too, is that true?
Ok, will be awaiting experiencial replies.
1. The Origin Client asked me if I wanted to update it. HELL NO!
2. In-game, it asked me to give my EA account (email and password). What is this for?
I did not register in-game, and it told me that I will not receive additional content yada-yada-yada.
But, what additional content does the in-game registration provide, anyway?
Okay. Unfortunately, the Origin copy of DS2 is stupidly nerfed. It's got all that garbage DLC crap, and I have the original un-updated version 1.0 of the exe file.
I have uninstalled it, and am now reinstalling it.
I'm sorry to say, but it's not the least bit scary anymore. Too bad.
PS: GLOB-DAMMIT! I had Origin's game auto-update enabled! CRAP! It took me a week to download DS2!
...redownloading. Hopefully, when I play this and reach the first store a second time, I'd see no ^*^%#(*! free crap that nerfs the whole franchise.
In the meantime, I think I'll be playing DISHONORED, Shadow Warrior...or F.E.A.R. 3
What the hell do I do now?
You heard right.
UPDATE: Yes, even the Origin copy, even if un-updated, comes with the crap-DLC. Even if played offline from Origin. Replacing the exe with the pre-patch exe will give out a missing activation.x86.dll error, so that workaround will never work anymore.
I sincerely regret buying the EA Humble Bundle that led me to get Origin, in hopes of finally playing DS2 without the crap-DLC. I feel like I've been robbed by EA. Thank God I got it from Humble Bundle though, so that much of my money went to charity instead.
Will now try and contact EA tech support in hopes of a solution.
1. Replacing the STEAM exe file _will not_ result in the game getting its exe file auto-updated
to the DLC-infected version?
2. Replacing the STEAM exe file WILL allow you to play the game WITHOUT the DLC?
PS: Please accept the friend invitation I gave you so that we could talk thru Steam chat. Faster comms than the forum.
