Dead Space 2

Steam Deck key activation issue
I bought Dead Space 2 YEARS ago, and on PC an activation wizard opens, I click "continue" and can play the game normally. On Deck a window opens telling me that activations limit has been reached and I can only "contact support" that is dead, or click "OK". How can I activate the game and play it on Deck?

Says 6 minute wait on the chat or email contact for me. Doesn't work?

People already contacted that support. The answer is "redeem it on Origin". ♥♥♥♥ Origin.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. I have had steam and ea accounts linked for a long time, so I contacted Ea, sent everything they asked for, proof of purchase, product code, dxdiag file, etc. and it still didn't resolve the issue. They even told me that the problem was resolved... Origin also no longer works, only Eaapp and it is very problematic. So I made the decision: I won't buy Ea games anymore.
I haven't bought a single EA game since Dead Space 2. One exception being Dead Space Remake, because it works native on Steam. I was able to activate Dead Space 2 on my PC with zero problems, but activation doesn't work on Deck for some reason.

The Tages DRM, that the game still uses for whatever reason, does not work on Linux or Windows emulation. Kinda weird that you still need it for this 13 year old game. Not even the online play works anymore and trying to login through EA just gives a servers unavailable notification. They should finally remove Tages... Anyway, one workaround is to use a "non Tages DRM exe". Google helps.

The solution to my activation problem turned out to be removal of activation from my PC, which gave me one free slot. I successfully installed Dead Space 2 on my Steam Deck, and it runs at full details, 90 frames per second. :D

OK, it requires a longer explanation. I had Dead Space 2 installed on my PC. I finished it on my PC fairly recently. Then I installed it on my Steam Deck OLED, to see how well it works. Upon game launch, it showed me the activation error, "no more activations left". I looked for solution for quite a while, until I found how to un-activate it from my PC. But for the life of me, I can't remember how I did it!! xD

I think I went to game files and found a little app that activates/de-activates it. According to Internet, the game came with 5 activations. Now I'm down to one, obviously. I wonder what will happen when I change my PC next time and entirely forget to un-activate my copy of Dead Space 2.

EA support will tell you to use EA app instead. They are 100% useless.

I bought this one last night and have been struggling with this problem for a little while now. Type your game key into the "launch options" in the general settings and you should be good to go. This got my game launching no problem.

Edit: I actually don't know if I was having the same problem, my game would launch for like a second and then crash (i think) ba k to the menu. I couldn't figure out why it was doing this but I decided to type in he product key in the launch options and it fixed mine. I hope you got the game working!
