The UE is over used imho. Unity is even worse though, but that engine is mostly used by indies anyway.
Funny! "UE5 is terribly optimized" . My credential are over 100 hours in building models and training models in UE5 and building small sandbox RPGs and also in Unity. Meaning Its not elaborate but its still more than most of tantrum throwers here who dont know the first thign about game design. I'm in a lot of developer forums wher we discuss engine mechanics. Frostbite is mature. UE5 is equally mature. Games are flawed 80% due to bad code and 20% because of Engines.
You cant pluck one game out of thin air and make a generic statement "UE is terribly optimized". Clearly very little understanding of how games are made
I like the confidence in which this guy declared this...almost as if he was the CTO of the firm deciding
"Why invent cars when horse and buggy run just fine"
Why do you think they took the time working on Frostbite to make it able to handle something like Dead Space where they literally had to rewrite pieces of the engine to allow the seamless ship to go around and dump it right after?
I'd say it's almost a lock, the new features and tech they wrote for DS1 are either going to a DS2 remake next or a new game.
Eh, the only issues I had were frame drops at the first ship in the dock cutscene and the final boss. Ran fine for the most part even on a 3060 Ti but I only play at 1080p still.
It's not always the engine, it's how the developers use it. You can give a Developer a gold-encrusted turd, but if they have no knowledge of Engine programming or Game design, then they'll never be able to polish it. Yes, un-optimised engines exist, but majority of the faults do still lead to the user. Look at the AAA Industry, there's some good examples that shows bad Engine usage with inexperienced Developers, or bad Engine-self. You also need to understand that with UE5 you also have to deal with the A.I tree, more complex, more it'll take a hit on your game.
I see these kind of threads in various game forums "update it to UE5" this "make next game in UE5" that.
Even in game forums where having it made in UE let alone UE5 makes absolutely 0 sense.
What the ♥♥♥♥, people?
Do ya love playing games in unoptimized engines or something?
