Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2

Torquemadada Jan 27, 2023 @ 9:41am
Game doesn't start
First a blue circle then a black screen and the game crashs and comeback to steam.
My PC is quite new, someone told somewhere that could be an issue. I'm on Windows11.

I had the same issue since i bought 12900k in january 2022 then i thought EA would fix it because those who prepurchased Dead Space remake can get Dead Space 2 for free and it would be playable but sadly not.
If you have an old CPU it should work

Try adding -threads 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 into the launch options maybe -core 1,2,3,4 might also work,

Basically game will not work if you have more than 10 core CPU.

This issue wast reported back in 2016.......when first very high end CPUs had this issue with DS 2...........

This game doesn't support W11 natively, you'll have to do some goofery with launch options.

Ok, thanks. But how can I add threads and core to the options ? I'm no informatician.
Crypto Gamer Jan 27, 2023 @ 11:59am
dead space icon in steam properties and launch options: -threads 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

Not sure if it needs space before the - or not.

But It might not work on win 11.

Never used it but there is a program called "Process Lasso " it can be used to set affinity for many program.

That could work too.

If you can fix it then I recommend turning off ingame vysncs set max frame limit to 60-150 in your GPU control panel. Can also set vsync on if you have 144hz or less monitor.

60fps causes less funny floating bodies and more balanced physis.

Too high fps can result in problems including QTEs not working, collision detection not always working as well. etc.
mouse control also becomes worse at too high fps.

I added the threads to the launch option and it still crashes at startup. Using a 12900K RTX 3080. Was anyone successful adding the thread string to the launch option?

The game was playable on my old i7 6850
EA should remaster so it can run on new gen hardware

Not working for me either, and I've also tried adding -core1,2,3,4

It's working fine for me straight out of the box, win 11 5800x 3080ti 32gb ram
Crypto Gamer Jan 27, 2023 @ 12:52pm
1
5800x is 8 core "only" so that works with no issues.

Sadly I have 4 core CPU so can not test out solution......

This might work:

Thx Crypto Gamer. It's working with the DLL you sent. And I also turned off the V Sync.
Virtual toast and cheers for your help.

this is why im keeping my gaming PC on windows 10 indefinitely. Win 11 ruins the optimization of games and makes older games like this not run at all

works out of the box for me
i7-11700
W10
