Never really interested me. But if the itch gets vein rippingly hard, I'll consider.
Known Callisto, waiting for that patiently and hopefully, as it is being developed by the creators of Dead space.
And I generally don't do 2 things: Trust the absolute unwashed pairs of genitals that is EA and Have high hopes for a remake of a game without the guidance of those who devised it. Its an eyecandy for sure, but its like seeing a very pretty little girl on the shoulders of a man who loves kids a bit...excessively.
Not saying DS remake will necessarily be bad (people loved the RE:2 remake) but will it have the same...soul as the original?
Thanks lads, both of you. I'll keep them words in mind.
P.s there is also a "Dead space redux" in the works which more looks like someone smeared a child's anus onto your screen and called it a "next gen upgrade." It looks cartoony at best and absolute eye vomit and worst.
Will give it a shot eventually. Just not now
or tomorrow
Or in one year
Or ....
Second one has puzzles, third person gameplay, weapon upgrades, horror atmosphere but also lean more towards the action route, as Dead Space. The remake is damn good and it's a how a modern Resident Evil should be. I wasn't a fan of Resident Evil 7 when I played it on release.
If you are looking for a true horror game with a similar atmosphere, give "Alien Isolation" a try. It's first person and you can't kill the alien but it's survival horror done right. The audio/visual design is perfect, especially if you are a fan of the first movie. The game has its lengths but you should like it, if you like Dead Space. Alien also served as inspiration behind the Dead Space games.
Last but not least: "Darkwood". It's a top-down indie game but don't let yourself get fooled by the view angle. It's a horror game from start to finish and has you fighting grotesque enemies as well. Try surviving a few nights in it. The locations and characters are interesting and the atmosphere is very unnerving.
All three are survival horror games and I used to play them a lot back then. All three can be found at good discounts regularily on Steam. Have fun!
Because I've seen RE2 remake and seemingly it can't scratch that Itch i have (I am thinking of giving it a shot eventually). Alien isolation I've beaten twice and yes, you are right it does kinda share many cues with the Dead space. Darkwood? now that is a one tense motherfocher, beaten it once, stopped half way through the second for some reason. gotta get back to it eventually.
I am slowly beginning to think my itch isn't to be satisfied after all.
At least we have the remake of DS1 coming! If it's successful enough, we might get a Dead Space 4 afterwards.
Damn I have really hit rock bottom. Nothing seems to satisfy my anymore. Maybe I have Horrectile disfunction...
Guess I'll just keep RE2R and Evil withins on my back log and give them a shot whenever I'll get to them.
EA Motive does not have a really bad track record though. Microtransactions are confirmed to NOT be included. And it's a remake after all. Just recreating most of the game with tools from today. I'll stay cautiously optimistic. DS3 already set the bar rather low anyway.
I just remembered some other games that were really cool and have the same kind of isolated experience, as Dead Space:
Prey from 2017. You are alone on a space ship, fighting aliens. It's more in line with the System Shock games though and the general atmosphere is closer to Half Life but it was really cool and the story is good too. It's more of an RPG and gives you a lot to choose from. Exploring Talos 1 was really cool.
Bioshock 1. Also System Shock like, but an isolated experience. More of an RPG Shooter too. Dead Space is more of an Horror game. But you may give it a try.
SOMA. By Frictional Games who made Amnesia The Dark Descent, Rebirth and the Penumbra games. If you enjoyed Alien Isolation, you will enjoy Soma too. But you are not given any tools to defend yourself though. The story is great and the underwater world is mesmerizing.
I would recommend Resident Evil 4 too, but it's kinda dated and is a bit more annoying to play rather than enjoyable. There are rumours that Capcom is working on a remake of it. The setting with the castle is amazing though.
Bioshock one I've beaten maybe 2-3 times, same with Soma (which I think was better than Amnesia:machine for pigs, but still significantly inferior to the first amnesia gameplay wise).
RE:4 I may get to through Immulators on my mobile or somethin.
Thank you for taking all this time to toss some good stuff my way lad, if i wasn't vaccinated i'd say drinks on me
Sure man, no problem. It's hard to find another game that can give you the same feeling and satisfaction as the one game you love, Dead Space in this case. I had this with Titanfall 2 when I was playing it, years ago. No other multiplayer shooter ever played or felt as good as Titanfall 2.
Btw, just in case you didn't know: A Machine for Pigs was developed by TheChineseRoom, the devs behind Dear Esther and Everybody's gone to the rapture. Frictional didn't develop it, just published it. I didn't like it either, Jessica Curry's music was the only good part in it.
huh, I am actually surprised to see Soma was not developed by them as it seems to be much closer to the Machine for pigs than Dark descent. Interesting. I intend to give Rebirth a shot, but have heard that its an already known game under a different skin.
I want to suggest Metro 2033 (redux). The saga goes longer, but starting with this first game is a good idea.
You have paranormal horror and face ravenous mutants, it's linear like Dead Space 2 but also very well directed, and while there's shooting and stealth, you can't go wasting ammo if you choose the way it is meant to be played at the start: ranger hardcore. Believe me, the atmosphere of that game is incredible, and if you like it, the other next games are great too.
Check spiders level walktrough for an example. DON'T GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE ARACHNOPHOBIA.
