EDIT:
Activation limit was relevant to a back in the days the PC-DVD solution, if this is still the version Steam has, this is quite amazing. Anyway, you can check your code and redeem the game on Origin, it is a newer iteration there. If you have ever established a multiplayer account within the game, you already have it redeemed on Origin, just login at www.ea.com website.
To deactivate DS2 on an old PC, make sure it's installed, browse the local files in steam library, there will be a little icon in the folder that looks like an eye and is named "activation" double click and a window will pop up that will let you deactivate the key on that PC.
Now you will have one activation back you can use on a different (presumably newer) PC.
It's worth noting Dead Space 2 doesn't appear to work at all on windows 11. It's worth keeping at least one windows 10 PC if you enjoy this game.
If you are completely stuck with no activations left and no access to your old system to deactivate it, your final option would be to request steam permanently remove it from your library and rebuy it during a deep sale. Right now is good time. It's currently 5$
yeah, i tried that - it doesnt work.
I permanently removed the game from Steam then purchased another copy through Steam -same thing.
Removed that game again. Purchased a CD key online - activated it again - SAME PROBLEM.
Then removed the game again and tried to have someone gift me a copy - they could not actually gift me the copy and were getting an error.
The same 5 limit message appears no matter what.
I contacted EA and this is what they said:
" I wish I could reset the activation limit, unfortunately Dead Space 2 game has been sunset many time ago and we dont have any tool to validate this game."
I think (Don't quote me) but un-linking your PC through steam website may help. I use the patch and have had no issues through steam.
