I had to reformat my pc, when I went to boot up dead space 2 it says.
"The activation limit for this serial number has been exceeded! Contact customer support for more information."

This is a semiofficial solution for PC-DVD version owners, download and apply on the game directory, links HERE[drive.google.com] and HERE[drive.google.com].

EDIT:

Activation limit was relevant to a back in the days the PC-DVD solution, if this is still the version Steam has, this is quite amazing. Anyway, you can check your code and redeem the game on Origin, it is a newer iteration there. If you have ever established a multiplayer account within the game, you already have it redeemed on Origin, just login at www.ea.com website.

Is there a way to simply clear the activation limit on my code so I can keep using the game on steam?

Not that I am currently aware of as I have not yet found this out. The inconvenience level is ridiculous though.

Hi , someone would have a solution, i called EA Games three times but each time they hung up on me : (

This is currently the only solution I have found - and most others, where the game runs perfectly fine (multi/single etc) and still loads normal through steam. Once you click play through steam a dialogue will show about the activation failing but click on OK and everything is normal. I do find the pain don't worry as a game that is paid for, shouldn't have this, but then activations are single use and EA should store this as a record even going through the steam activation as I did where it stores the key but EA chooses to not want to agree with steam even if it was from a genuine HDD failure etc. Technology will never be perfect but the game works :steamhappy:

EA use shady anti-customer business practise that should not be supported or be acceptable. They basically took away game that you rightfully own to play

You can't, as VAC isn't used in Dead Space 2.

There's an easy fix for this issue so long as you still have access to the original PC's you activated Dead Space 2 on. If you left it activated on a PC before getting rid of it or before it stopped working then I don't know what can be done. For example I have lost 2 activations permanently bc one PC is totally dead and the other was a laptop I returned and didn't know to deactivate DS2 before uninstalling steam. So now I have to juggle 3 activations.

To deactivate DS2 on an old PC, make sure it's installed, browse the local files in steam library, there will be a little icon in the folder that looks like an eye and is named "activation" double click and a window will pop up that will let you deactivate the key on that PC.

Now you will have one activation back you can use on a different (presumably newer) PC.

It's worth noting Dead Space 2 doesn't appear to work at all on windows 11. It's worth keeping at least one windows 10 PC if you enjoy this game.

If you are completely stuck with no activations left and no access to your old system to deactivate it, your final option would be to request steam permanently remove it from your library and rebuy it during a deep sale. Right now is good time. It's currently 5$

yeah, i tried that - it doesnt work.
I permanently removed the game from Steam then purchased another copy through Steam -same thing.
Removed that game again. Purchased a CD key online - activated it again - SAME PROBLEM.
Then removed the game again and tried to have someone gift me a copy - they could not actually gift me the copy and were getting an error.
The same 5 limit message appears no matter what.

I contacted EA and this is what they said:

" I wish I could reset the activation limit, unfortunately Dead Space 2 game has been sunset many time ago and we dont have any tool to validate this game."

Use my link or the gameCD patch as that works.
I think (Don't quote me) but un-linking your PC through steam website may help. I use the patch and have had no issues through steam.

You can use this app to deauthorize your older games. https://activate.ea.com/deauthorize/
