Proper cockpit camera mod with horizon tilt (lean). Now available!
Update: BML version now available for those who are already running a modded data.mix file but would like the camera modifications. Insert the file under DATA > CAMERAS and replace the original. Original backup also provided. Links at the bottom.

Why does this exist?
Since Milestone somehow found it necessary to ruin the only proper onboard camera, I made my own mod to fix it.

What is it, exactly?
The new camera is just like the helmet camera...without the static helmet image and muffled sound! This will replace the "cockpit" camera, NOT the "helmet camera" - boring old helmet camera is still intact for those who still want to use that. The new cockpit camera retains the same lean angles on a per-bike basis as those in helmet cam mode. I did not alter FoV.

Anything else I should know?
You cannot play online with this fix, and other online components may be unavailable as well. If you want to play online it's very easy. Just swap your original data.mix file back into the RIDE2 folder, renaming the modded one with a different extension. I've made the original data.mix available as well in case you overwrite your original. These will be uploaded along with the modded data.mix for each new update Milestone does. Until they decide to get off their butts and just give us the option in the game...if ever...but yeah hey thanks Milestone for ruining my favorite view I've used in all of your games going back to 2000.

So wait, what happens when there's an official patch? Will the mod break?
Holler with any issues. I'll have to make a new mod each time Milestone updates the game because it's doubtful they won't touch the data.mix file when updating and thus the modded file will be overwritten with a new one, reverting the changes. I'll update this thread with new versions as I make them, it's quick and easy to do so no worries, shouldn't take long to update...cough MILESTONE cough.

HEY MILESTONE!
IF YOU ARE READING - WE STILL WANT A LEGIT VERSION OF THIS SO WE CAN RACE WITH BUDDIES IN THIS VIEW! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Can't we preview what this looks like before modding our game?
Heck yeah! Here you go...

Possibly, I'll look into it but no ETA or promises. ;P

I think that if devs unlocked the modding it could be possible to modify the data to cheat in online races. Although I dont know what parameters can be changed by that modding.

Well of course. What I'm asking Milestone for is to implement this camera view as a real option to select from. Or an option to disable helmet overlay (and muffled audio) from helmet cam.

If you're expecting to play a bike sim from first person you should expect to encounter horizon tilting. It's nothing new. I don't know why they removed this from RIDE 2. Helmet cam would be a cool alternate option (though it needs improvement on it's own), but they essentially ruined good old cockpit view by taking away horizon tilting and making it "newb friendly." Want easy mode? That's what third person camera is for.

I got used to helmet cam maybe because of that different sounds that are more ear friendly (at least for me) anyway I have to try onboard cam.

Updated links, formatting.

BML version now available for those of you with an already modded data.mix file. Now you can enjoy an improved onboard camera in tandem with your other mods! Woohoo!

Great thank you 😊

I think MotoGP 07 by Climax/THQ has the best camera = "fixed fuel tank camera", it shows how much bike is leaned which gives you information how much brake (or throttle) you can apply. It also forces you to look towards apex, exit itc. Could youu make something like that?

The best camera position is in GP Bikes where you can adjust almost everything.

Just wanted to say thanks, it's a great mod. I managed to get the BML version inserted into the data.mix file after a bit of trial and error; hint, you might need to use that "Omit root folder" check box ;)

FOV reduces as speed increases. Our eyes adopt to distance. The best would be to keep FOV locked at 60-65 deg.
Real life FOV in front of 24'' monitor would be cca. 55 deg.
Fixed fuel tank camera (like the one in MotoGP 07 by THQ/Climax) gives the best experience.

There is no Cameras folder in my Data folder. Anyone knows why ?
