Descent: Road to Legend

Descent: Road to Legend

Monster abilities, cards vs Road to Legend...
We played our first game today, tutorial, mostly just trying to get a grasp of the rules. I think we got a handle of most but monster cards confuse us.

Do we ignore the abilities on the back of the physical card if they aren't mentioned in Road to Legend? For instance the Barghasts had Night Stalker and the Ettin had Throw. Because Road to Legend makes a big deal about doing the actions listed on screen it made us question if the backs of cards counted.

No you don't ignore them. Night Stalker is always active. As far as the Ettin, the Road to Legend seems to handle that differently. In one of the games I played, the first thing they did was engage. Then they attacked. the 3rd action they did was a throw (the abomination did). So unless it is a surge, it the program picks when it will do the action. If it's a surge then you have to follow the rules for Road to Descent. You can download the rules from FantasyFlight games or I think the app links to it. There are some cases where you have to pick the action.

We played a second time and it seems to be that you only do what the game says as far as monster actions. So basically you ignore the abilities on the card if they aren't listed on the screen. For instance the ettin never had a Throw come up on our 3-player game but on the 4-player playing of the tutorial the Throw action showed up as an available action.

As for actions yes just follow what the app says

But as Cordell stated ablilities like Night Stalker, scamper, cowardly, shambling, web, reach, shadow and flail are always active(passive albiities).

As for spending surges you can always click the skull knight icon thing in the monster activation window and it will let you know how to spend surges.
