Can this version play online together with Origin owned C&C 4?

can you play this online at all? i don't know any more. I know EA games shut down C&C online servers. i am sure its up to red alert 3, i don't know if C&C4 included

C&C 4 online on Origin version is up and running, i own the game, im not sure about steam though that a friend wants to buy.

Then it should work, they use the same server.
Edit: they could get the game in steam, and also redeam it on Origin using the cd-key. and they will have it on both places.
