Alexander steam - failed to read censored word dictionary file:data//chat_filter.san

Alexander crashes with this error on startup. As I checked the files in the directory, I noticed a folder from a previous mod I supposedly uninstalled.I deleted the folder but it reappears every time I launched the game. I don't know if this folder and my error are connected. Can anyone help?

I had the same thing and fixed it. I had previously had Rome TW Alexander installed with the LOTR:TW mod, but then uninstalled Alexander and deleted all the game folders before reinstalling vanilla Alexander. Then i started to get this error ('failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san').

I right-clicked on Alexander in the library, clicked on "Set Launch Options" and the launch script from the LOTR:TW mod was still there. So I deleted that, restarted steam and it completely fixed it.

So just make sure your launch options are clear.

Im currently having the same issue, but I cant find "set launch options", am I just a technical illiterate, or am I missing something?

right click game->properties->launch options
