Play order?
I'm in the middle of this game right now, but I know it's part of a trilogy. My question is, do I go to 25th Ward next or FSR?
And for that matter, FSR is supposed to have a remake. Is it essential to play it in release order (SC, FSR, 25) or is FSR more of a spin-off and I can play it third when the remake comes out?

If you're planning to go into the 25th ward, I would very much raccomend just playing an older version of FSR before jumping into it, otherwise certain plot developments will leave you even more confused than you'd normally be.
The PS2 version is superior to the DS version, but it is only in japanese. So I'd suggest either playing the DS version, or playing the PS2 version with a transcript of the english script unless you know japanese.

There hasn't really been any news on the remake outside of Suda mentioning he'd like to do it, so it could be years down the line especially considering GHM is busy developing the third No More Heroes game right now.

Anyway just so you know, these games also connect back to the Twilight/Moonlight Syndrome games (though not in any way that will make them impossible to understand for you, you'll just miss a few call backs at the beginning and at the end of the trilogy) and to the no more heroes series

Yes, FSR before 25W if you can.

Honestly, it doesn't relate to THAT many things in 25W, but the things it does are pretty important; it's hard to talk about without going into details, so I'll just reiterate, yeah play FSR.

So there is no English patch for PS2 version and the announced remake hasn't yet received any date and might not come out in the next few years. Is this the currect assesment of the current situation? I guess it's time to dust of my DS.

Is it possible to play FSR without owning a DS or PS2? (Yes, I know YouTube exists, but I'd rather play the game myself)

Emulators also exist.
