How does sandbox mode work?
So, I'm still running through the missions (On 5 right now) and greatly enjoying the game. What i'm looking at right now is Future playability... Once I beat the game (IE unlock everything and learn the manuvers and functions) What do I have to look forward to in sandbox mode?

Idealy I'd like to see something such as I start my own faction with some minor claim ( like an asteroid in the belt), and build up my forces to battle against the rest of the system.

In theory (from what I have seen), all these ships have a cost attached to them, And I could see it in theory where you get a fixed amount of credits for everything in your control, However I don't know the details on all that stuff at this point.... Can anyone who's either a) a rocket scientest and unlocked it all already or b) already messed around with it a good bit fill in the blanks?

It's not that grandiose; sandbox mode is primarily a way to test your designed ships and modules, or experiment with tactics for certain fleet sizes/types. You get infinite credits, you pick your celestial body, and you jump in, just like any other level.

Well that stinks as far as being a bummer on what I was hoping for, However all the core requirements are already there, So maybe its something the Devs or a dedicated Modder could add in....

<Edit/PS>

For those who read this and think " well thats no good " don't let it change your opinion about buying the game.... The core campaign is awesome and a lot of fun!

Agreed, I just didn't want people buying the game for a sandbox mode expecting skyrim or something...

Think of it like 'custom battles' in the Total War games. :)

I'm probably picking up the game around thanksgiving and would love to have something to mess around with once I beat the campaign enemies. Hopefully this isin't actually too hard to mod.
