Interceptor missiles choose targets stupidly
My interceptor missiles all go for the same target, and so as enemy missiles get destroyed my inteceptor missiles retarget, and use up all their delta-V doing course corrections
It would be great if there was a way to set it so a missile or ship will not choose the same missile or drone as a target, unless there are no other targets available.

It seems unclear the extent to which your missiles do intelligent target allocation (like modern data-linked cruise missiles) or just glom on to the largest heat signature they see, but usually they behave like the latter. I think it's a feature that should be improved, though the use of optical imaging+recognition or similar technologies would make Flares a much less viable tool.

I've not seen any behavior that makes me think missiles are at all smart about target allocation.

As it stands you basically have to plan around this behaviour- stagger your interceptors in small waves separated by a minute or two and they'll be more effective. Hopefully missile behaviour will be a little more robust in the future.

you only need one with high yield to take out an attack wave, with another staggered by a minute for any survivors

I already gave up on missiles. Not only they are stupid in choosing target, their homing program is also horrible. My 5kt nuke with ~30g thrust and 3km/sdV still miss capital ship by more than 100m 9/10 times.

I'm not sure what did I do wrong with missle, but I put them on hold for now. Drones are much better than missile in everything.

Except laser resistance. A little lazing makes drones cry, while missiles have a chance at making it through.

I have been using smaller 2.5 kt nukes, and shooting them out of a very low power coilgun so they launch pointing at the hostile missiles. I'm doing it this way because I can't stand how the AI constantly avoids intercepts and there is no auto-intercept button
So far, it has worked alright

Do they miss due to running out of delta V before getting close?
I am pretty sure that if a missile accelerates fast enough, it won't be able to turn off it's engine due to the force of the acceleration, and 30g is probably more than fast enough to cause that to happen.

I just finished some tests.
Two of my cruisers used 244 missiles and about half their railgun ammo to defend themselves against the entire missile load of two Siloships on the launcher AI (50 missiles per wave)

You can modify the missile maneuvering behavior by changing parameters of the remote control unit.

30g thrust is...rather excessive.

That's what counter laser drones are for. It's meta though. So, that's cheating.

Yeah, that's it. I will try to slowthem down a bit. And there I spent hours optimizing micro NTR for the missile.

I tried meddle with the control unit before, it was even worse than the standard setting.

And it is micro missle for overwhelming enemy defense weapons, they are small, numerous, fast micro nuke missiles. They successfully keep the enemy defense weapon occupied, don't do much else though.
