I found out how to make it Widescreen for whoever is having the same problem.
So what you need to do is edit the files in the RTW folder.

so you go to

Computer>C-drive>Program Files(x86)>Steam>Steamapps>Common>Rome Total War Gold Edition>Preferences>preferences.

From there you'll see all your saved settings. Go find resolution and change both the max resolution and normal resolution. They're right next to eachother. Change it to 1366x768. Do it do strategic map and battle map. And there ya go. have fun playing!

Left one step out... Also set USE_WIDESCREEN from FALSE to TRUE It might work without it, but it is a math error that will build and cause crashing randomly.

I think barbarian invasion has its own set of files. but my RTW isn't installed currently so I can't verify..

There's a folder inside the main one: it's called "bi", go there and repeat the process.
(You probably figured it out, just writing it for someone else who might have this problem) :)

I appreciate this. It enabled me to go from a weird looking squashed screen with black bars on the sides to a proper widescreen. :steamhappy:
