To have people say which they think is better. What else?
PS I'm not trying to start an argument, but I am trying to make enough noise so that CA think differently about how to make and release a TW game in future. I may be waisting my time, but incase I'm not, I'm gonna try and add my little drop to the ocean.
Why? Continue reading.
People just have to understand that Rome 1 and 2 are two seperate game. Rome 2 is not ment to be a big brother of rome 1. The game threw out many aspects such as houses and some senate options while throwing in many different options. For example.. in rome one. Seiges and battles can quickly become cheap and repetative because everything looks the same or very similar. This is not a bad thing at all.. some people like that.
In rome 2.. The map is ever changing. Your battles can take place in a city one year.. come back a few years later and it's a totally different seige because the city has grown and changed dramatically. Persistant landscapes..aka if you're in a battle in a place you've just been in a battle in a few years back, it's the same map. Rome 1.. kinda randomsh. This adds a feel of realism because of course if you have a better idea of the land than your enemy, you'll have that homeland advantage. Knowing chokepoints, high points, ambush points. Though you can't ge too comfortable with that either because with time, it's subject to change. Not including seasons.
In rome 1.. The walls get bigger. Buildings get taller. Layouts the same. This is not bad. some people like that. I couldn't tell if the battle maps were trying to mimic your location on the campaign map, or were randomly generated. Either way.. Everything was the same after awhile. Which isent a problem.. But I don't want to be fighting on the same maps in rome that I fought near egypt. Shoulda stayed home.
Rome 2 introduces totally new oprotunitys for unique strategys. This is where I find rome 1 lacking. I'm a big total war fan. I love all of them. Each one offes a new lesson. A new situaton that you wont face in the other total wars.
Rome 1 with EB or RS mod >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> rome 2
Usually, when they release a second product, it's supposed to be better; it's common sense, man. Upgrade from Rome to Rome 2. That "2" didn't come out from nowhere, you know. Or maybe it did. Hmm....
Rome 2 is nothing but a rushed product; they spent the majority of the money on promos and what not, tried to make it a game with better graphics but failed horribly, took out key points which made RTW and shogun 2 great (WHICH THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO - YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO COME UP WITH MORE FEATURES, NO THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!!!!!), created a faulty AI along with dozens of bugs (When Rome 2 came out, it was NOT A BETA, it was supposed to be the FINAL PRODUCT!), implemented the whole "capture and defend the flag" concept which, by the way, takes away the whole idea of strategically deploying your troops on good ground in the beginning of a battle when defending, AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!!
I was so hyped up over Rome 2, that I pre-ordered the game without hesitation, as I had only played RTW + mods and a little bit of Empire/Shogun 2, so I didn't know it was going to be THIS BAD. But I'm not going to say that I made a mistake; I will continue playing the game "casually" in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TOTAL WAR game, and await further word from CA and SEGA on how to salvage what's left of this game.
Sure, the game has it's good points, but the bad far outweighs the good in so many ways, that I don't even want to bother listing the good ♥♥♥♥. For that, watch the video. I apologize for my ranting, but I've been a Total War fan for so many years, and the dissapointment I've gotten from this game has given me nothing but heartache and shaking my head in disgust over and over and over again.
I feel your pain brother. I too preordered. I too am a TW fan. I too feel horribly let down with some parts of this game. But, there are just enough (by a finger nail) things about Rome 2 to keep my attention. Lastly, I hope that all future DLC for this game is free, as duped beta testers we need recompense.
