Nope. Windows 8 and 8.1 run it just fine on my system. Sorry.

I have Windows 8.1, and it runs fine for me. Have you checked to see if you're missing any necessary programs?

When i start it it says i am missing direxct 9 and i need to reinstall it, however when i try to install directX 9.0 its says it can only be installed on systems excluding windows 8. please help.

Have you tried installing a later version (e.g. directX 11), and seeing if that works instead?

I think i have it already but when its crashes it says it requires directX 9 in order to function.

I'm not really an expert on this, but have you tried downloading it from here? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Download succeeded but now my game constantly changes the resolution of the game, before it even started loading.
Wilfo 4 ENE 2014 a las 6:13
Well at least it will open now, that's a start. Can you get in to the in game menu, or will it not load that far? If you can, you may be able to manually set the resolution the game runs at, so it won't keep on changing.

It changes from black screen to desktop all while changing the resolution.

Im having the same problem as OP, the screen flashes black and poor res to normal desktop and back about once every second. Very annoying, almost made me sick. Any solutions would be very welcome, and ill keep trying on my own.

Fix found, at least for me hope it works for you dude-

What I did was go to the preferences.txt file. You can find it at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rome Total War Gold\preferences

All I did was go to the line called: AA_Quality_AA: Low
And made it into: AA_Quality_AA: Off

I also tinkered a little with the max screen resolutions in the file, but the game doesn't support my resolution to begin with. In the end I set them all to 1024x768, but it only started worked after I changed the AA_quality line - which I think did it for me.

Hope this works for you!
Cheers, "

Edit: Dont try to make it widescreen, starts the whole problem over again
