How to swtich to 64 bit??
Hi
So I have a gtx 780m and an i7 4700hq, not the best specs, but even when I turn all my settings to low, I have like 15 fps in large battles. I currently am playing the game in 32 bit, but my computer runs 64 bit. Anyone know how to switch to 64 bit and if it will improve the frame rate?

Thanks!

Don't I wish! LOL Sorry, not laughing at you, just the idea...

First, that laptop can run Rome easily. Which windows are you running, 7 or 8.1? Oh, and this will take a few steps. Also, how much memory do you have installed? The actual brand and model number would help me more in detail. We can get you a better frame rate, but huge battles will always drag you down at points.

gonna subscribe to this real quick, it might help with my rome game too since it's lagging a ton on this computer, not the best really like 4 gigs ram but it should be running better especially seeing how empire and medieval 2 run a lot better than rome does on this computer

Spitfire, I do not mind you dropping in, but there may be a few things that must be done slightly differently in your system, especially if yours is AMD CPU. That said, you need to list your model number or detailed specs as well and keep in mind we are attempting to run a 1970's Chevy Vega with a Lambroghini V12. You have to tone the engine down because its natural torgue will rip that auto body into pieces otherwise.

On 4gb of ram your game should work relatively well. But you haven't really given much detail about other stuff. Depending on your CPU, OS and other things like that. Rome tends not to work so well on newer computers, especially the 8.1. but there are workarounds depending on the problem.

Murphy, I have come to the conclusion asking specs is like asking someone to remove their clothes in public. Not just this post because it is recent enough the participants may be on the other side of the world. Most posts though.

Here and for anyone else reading, different components have different ways to work around. It is easier to help people when we know what you have because sometimes that can tell us what will not work without you having to try it. I understand some people may not know the details, but seriously, a brand and a model number is all we need if that is how it was bought.

If you have friends somewhere on here that make fun of what you have, they are probably not your friends...

not sure if it's enough but these are the specs i found
windows 8.1
4 gigs ram
amd e2-2000 apu wieht radeon hd graphics 1.75 ghz
64 bit operating system x 64 based processor
aaaand it's one of those crappy all in one computers lol that's about all the info i got
wait 23-b 231 is the model number, hp pavilion computer if it helps...

Applications including games, must be designed and compiled to as 64bit application. Rome 1 and even TW Attila will be 32bit and cannot use the advantages.

Starting with Slayer... First, with the Intel CPU with onboard INTEL HD Graphics there is some lag that just cannot be worked out but this is usually in the campaign map rather than in battles.

Spitfire, APUs are not meant for gaming, They work fantastic for applications on demand, but not so much for continuous strain. (Techs dont go nuts on me because this is laymens explanation) An APU core is pretty much just a standard core with the top speed lowered to allow speeding up the FSB Clock and are regulated through power input and voltage. Your lag comes from Rome not knowing how to handle being processed at accelerated FSB clock speeds. Unfortunately not much is going to change your issue though you might improve it slightly.

First, Set your game resolution to match exactly your desktop resolution. As well, click Advanced Options and make sure you have widescreen checked if you have a widescreen monitor. Make sure all else below the drop down selection menus is unchecked. In the selection areas, turn AnitAlaiasing OFF, turn grass off, and turn vegitation animation to low. Everything else can be set to highest level.

Now, with the game running, do not use ALT/TAB to go to desktop as it sometimes hangs forcing a reboot to get out of it. Rather, hit CTRL/ALT/DEL and select Task Manager. On the Task Manager go into Details and find Rome.exe. Now, you have to do this each and every time you run the game. Right click Rome and select Set Affinity. In the box that opens, make CPU0 or CPU1 the only ticked box and select OK. Now Right click again and set priority to Highest, go back into game and play.

You should both search Google for Large Address Aware, an application you download and use to convert Rome to use more than 1GB of Ram. Using this will run your Rome up from using about 800MB to using up to 1.5 GB which will help with both video rendering and running the game.

Let me know how you are once you do all these...

You're right about that Hawk, though I can understand how many people simply don't know this information too since unless taught, you don't really know where to find it.

Also about Slayers issue, do you think the problem might be in that his processing speed is too low? Even though he has an average speed of 2.4GHz if you add in anti-virus, and the steam app itself ontop of Rome, he wouldn't have enough unless the turbo was running but he can't always have that on depending on enviromental conditions. I'm not computer whiz like you but this sounds like a likely cause to me as well. Most cpu should have at least 3.0GHz bare minimum to be any real good. I am making quite a few assumptions about exactly how it works though.
HazardHawk Nov 22, 2014 @ 1:24pm
Rome was designed to run on a single core 1.4 ghz cpu running with a 400mhz FSB for optimum performance. Rome doesnt really know how to run on a 2.4 ghz quad core CPU running with a 200 mhz FSB. Most actual lag comes from Rome thinking the CPU is cut in half because of the FSB thus affecting priority thus creating lag.

Now, you can take your CPU if you know what you are doing and increase the FSB Clock to 400 while lowering multiplier to get you perhaps half of overall capability and Rome will run perfectly and even your computer will run like a scalded dog even if its lifespan just got decreased to about a tenth of normal. You can also use the computer as central heat for a three bedroom home in the dead of an Alaskan winter at that speed!

Try setting the affinty of rome to use only one cpu core

if this helps you have to do it everytime you launch the game though
