think it's impossible in the simple game, perhaps modding it... but I'm not an expert about that, ask me to reinvent the roman army, but not to reinvent a game... ;)

Follow these simple steps.

1. Go into the Rome TW Folders Data, Mine is in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rome Total War Gold\data"
2. Select the text file: export_descr_unit
3. Make a back up and put it outside your game folder and then edit the one in the game folder
4. Once you open inside notepad, go edit>find or ctrl+f and type "greek hoplite spartan"
(All the data between "type greek hoplite spartan" and "ownership greek_cities, slave" is part of that unit.)
5. In ownership add "seleucid" so it should look like "ownership greek_cities, slave, seleucid"
6. If for any reason it doesnt work just replace the file with the back up and if you need help just message me, and there you can change other things like recluitment type, hitpoints, recluitment cost, etc

Ty for helping me,I tried this and it looks like it didn't work? When I used create_unit "greek spartan hoplite" I got a weird peasant with black clothing.

I haven't really ventured around Greece yet. I'm still somewhat new to the game, but it may be possible to hire them as mercenaries.

Did you only get that in the little unit card? or did you actually go into battle and see a peasant unit?

Sadly they are not mercenary units, they don't have the "mercenary_unit" in attributes which brings back to the topic...

Add "mercenary_unit" in the units attribute so it looks like "attributes sea_faring,hide_forest,command,can_sap,very_hardy,mercenary_unit", this will probably allow you to recluit them as mercenaries

It looks like a little peasant unit card but in the battlefield it's spartan hoplites

Do this:

1 - Go to RTW "data" folder (mine is D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rome Total War Gold\data)
2 - Look for the "export_descr_buildings.txt" file
3 - Open it and search for "army_barracks" entry, then "greek hoplite spartan", it's below the Silver Shield Pikeman entry.
4 - Select the spartan entry and paste this over it: recruit "greek hoplite spartan" 0 requires factions { greek_cities, seleucid }
5 - You can now recruit Spartan Hoplites as the seleucids now!

You'll have to get a mod for it. But lucky enough there's no shortage of them around.
