Windows 10, horrible fps/graphics fix?
On the first day of w10, modded rtw with eb worked fine. Now, I have to run it with lowest resolution and graphics, and it still has about 10 fps on th ecampaign map. Any tips?

Hello! I have found the solution for Windows 10. Works well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dGlog9mvKs
You just need to put the file d3d8.dll into your RTW directory. There are lot of versions of this file in the web but RTW works only with this version. I don't know why. Also you can download it here https://drive.google.com/open?id=17Qwr1eR0b0mWn5GKV98yf2iykOIkk7WO

Don't get windows 10 >.> Sorry, but no one saw this comeing but me? ^.^;
Best thing I can think of is to find the compatability settings and use those.

I have had 10 for three months now. The only issue with Windows 10 is Rome will not run the first time without using a backup copy of an already generated Preferences folder.

Alexander will now use the same fix as with the Release version it is now no longer black listed and blocked from running.

People are having problems because Windows 10 upgrade resets all apps to internal Windows 10 apps and you have to go back in and reassociate both video and sound files to a different player and because if you are using an HDMI connection it defaults to a "p" rating rather than a dual number setting meaning it becomes 1080p rather than a computer resolution of 1920X1080 which older games do not understand.

You can bypass some of this by adding "-ne -nm" without quotations to the Steam Launch options.

HazardHawk, you need to make a guide on these workarounds and fixes, so many people will need them. From my experience, newer OS' tend to cause older games progressively more problems. Not many people understand how to get around them like you do.

Windows 10 is fine. Rome wouldn't run on mine until I added -ne in the command line through Steam. After that it ran fine.

Thak you very much, rare to get game fixing tips on steam forums. Now I may continue my Roman domination.

I wish CA would go ahead and make me a full Admin for the Steam Forums so I could make pinned post of relevant fixes and keep them updated with changes. They no longer bother with Empire and before forums.

Is this really productive advice? Does it help the OP? I don't think so...
Personally I find Windows 10 great. It *seems* to run better than Win 8.1 with a smaller memory footprint. I go from boot to desktop in around 40 seconds.
Most of my steam games run great so far...

I was thinking that to haha, but no need to start a flame war

If you're willing to back me up on it, I can bug them on the TW forums about it. The new guys need your knowledge to play the game and everyone including me finds your tips very useful.
They'll probably listen if we go to their forums and I ask nicely, especially if they see you want the position too.

PS... Foolball, oops, I meant foosball. Tell me, what exactly did your own post add to the topic in question apart from a running advertisement of Windows 10? ;) And since I'm not interested in a flame war either I'mma leave it at that.

You just massively contradicted yourself bud.

I have talked to both Sega and CA. They will tell you the forums have admins assigned and that is all that will come of it. I even tried submitting an article for sticky with all the Windows 7 and 8.1 fixes. It is mostly easiest just to keep everything in a word document and copy and past the portions I need when I catch the questions. It is not that big of a deal, but it would be helpful to have a managed pinned post to keep updated. I even tried maintaining posts at TWCenter and just giving shortcuts and people balked at being sent someone they did not know. It is what it is and I dont mind. I even have one of the most diverse friends lists on Steam! LOL

Ha, that I can believe. About the friends list that is.
It's funny cuz I seldom remember seeing those admins in this forum >.>
Hmm, well what if you made a post, could the current admin (assuming there is one) be able to sticky it for you? It actually kinda bugs me you're not an admin cuz I reckon you'd be one of the best.
HazardHawk Aug 2, 2015 @ 9:55pm
Thanks for the compliment. I have no clue who the admin is for this forum. I can get someone removed if they truly need removing, but most people calm down if politely told they are straying out of line and I have only had to do that twice in maybe 3 or 4 years here. Most probably think I am the admin because I try to handle the tech support and even do so in whatever language is needed.

Just so anyone reading knows, I am old broken down disabled veteran of US army! LOL I learned computers as a kid back in the Commadore and Amiga days and then I became a full fledged modern tech with several computer shops after my spine started giving out. Now I help out of boredom! LOL
