preferences file

so i wanna change the preferences file so i can play it on windows 10. but the problem is that the preferences file is blanco, nothing is in there :/

It takes you to the official totalwar forum with a copy and paste example to create the file yourself.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\preferences --> preferences then u scrolldown to:AA_QUALITY:AA_LOW and change it to:AA_QUALITY:AA_OFF
...u can also change this for barbarian invasion: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\bi\preferences -->references AA_QUALITY:AA_OFF

You could try to add -ne to your start options in "Set Launch Options" in Games- Rome TW- right click- properties - Local Files. It will run in windowed though. See my second link in the other thread for more info.

You never said that the game didn't start. With most versions today, since Windows 10 came out and Windows 7/8 updated, you need to do one of the two things explained above - either add the -ne or turn Anti-Aliasing off. If there is no pref file, and it does not generate on an attempted launch, then use the -ne method. You will need to set your campaign and battle resolution to match your desktop resolution when using -ne.

and fourthagemods i and my friends tryed what you sayed but again it dont work -_-

I also, my RTW, does not work because I do not have direct x does not work because the window 10 :/

There's no problem with Direct X. Just use the -ne in the launch options (will need to set in-game resolution to same as desktop).

The message is incorrect. The conflict is elsewhere. If you read the (now) numerous threads on here you will see that you just need to add -ne to the launch options. The game otherwise cannot deal with the resizing of the game to the desktop for some unknown reason.

Why does it happen:
The game has issues if the preferences.txt contains a resolution that has a dfifferent resolution set for campaign map / strategy map than your windows resolution.

In addition the game fails to create the preferences.txt at all if it does not exist.


Solution:

For Rome 1:
This will autosolve the issue for BI even though they are located in different directorys (magic)
1. Check your Steam directory
e.g. c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold

2. if not exist create the directory preferences, process with 3.
If the preferences folder exists continue with 4.

3. download a preferences.txt from my clouddrive
http://1drv.ms/1GfQFGQ and copy it to your installation folder e.g. c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold\preferences
WARNING: this will obviously delete your graphics and game settings except key bindings.

4. if the preferences.txt exist open it with notepad or similar and adjust the resolution to meet your windows resolution

STRATEGY_RESOLUTION:1920x1080
BATTLE_RESOLUTION:1920x1080

these values must correspond with your Windows resolution*!
