INTEL HD lag (possible fix; testing needed)
As promised, I am trying to check out the DirectX provision to work around the INTEL onboard HD GPU interference causing slowdowns and lagging for people with INTEL CPUs.

It was someone else’s idea to use the DirectX file d3dx8.dll file. You can search and find a copy if you wish to try it. It works on one out of four machines from what I have been able to figure out if you have the DirectX 9 files in your main Rome Folder when it is placed also in the main Rome folder. That number may not hold as I only have four machines to test with.

On many computers, DirectX 9 is not recognizing it needs to activate DirectX 8 compatibility.

The D3DX81AB.dll does seem to be working on the four computers I have available for testing.

You can download it from where you like, I am including a shortcut for those too lazy to search!

http://www.opendll.com/index.php?file-download=d3dx81ab.dll&arch=32bit&version=8.1.0.0&dsc=DirectX-8.1-D3DX8-DLL-for-JEDI-projects

Download, right click Rome in your games list, select properties, on the local files tab, select browse local files, place the DirectX 8 file directly in this folder. Make sure this folder also contains the d3dx9_24.dll through the d3dx9_43.dll files present as well. They can be found in Windows/system32 folder. Make a copy! DO NOT MOVE! COPY and PASTE these files into your main Rome folder.

Now try to play Rome and please tell me whether you are experiencing lag, how much, when, and even if not experiencing lag. I need answers as to whether this works to keep working on it for those that it does not work!

WARNING! YOU WILL EXPERIENCE GRAPHIC DETAIL REDUCTION TO DIRECTX 8 LEVEL IN BLOOMS! Then again, unless you are on a very large 4K monitor you are NOT going to notice!

NOTE: Helps with AMD APU also, but has no effect for AMD CPU.

Will post as well to TW Center after I get some replies in order to expand testing.

Followed your instructions exactly, sorry to say nothing happened. No improvement. The d3d8.dll DX8 -> DX9 wrapper from the "Optimus Fix..." thread continues to work fine though.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I know it works for about 75% of laptop owners with Intel CPUs and Nvidia Graphics. It does not work for PC users at all with the INTEL CPU. I am attempting to make it work for everyone so input is needed from more than just one source; especially PC users.
