and about offline playing
just wanted to play, I have 2 sons, but only 2 steam accounts
so both block the steam and I can not play. this is really the biggest bullsxxt of steam, as it is one household, differente computers, same IP, and we can not play 2 different games in one account... I dont understand this at steam. I understand if it is about the same game, but it is not. ( I have Rome2 and Attila in both accounts yet).
so now it it does not work, if I am offline, steam is still knowing, that someone is playing already - and I can not cancel it, "error" (as internet is off)
So I have to take out my old rome gold DVDs or my saved clean installation...and play the version with the lower resolution.
As you own Rome on Steam, you also own Alexander. Alexander is a mod for Rome, but is set up with only the most basic Rome files in its base so that it is stand alone. If you use the "-alexander" text in Alexander Launch Options, it loads Rome, but is VERY basic and cut down and all you need is the more complete/complex versions from your Rome files to make it the full game. However, replacing the complete contents of the main data folder for the Alexander game will break Alexander. Breaking Alexander to play Rome is cheating/theft by the term of use agreement.
In order NOT to break the terms of agreement, browse into the main Alexander folder, paste in copy of your Rome folder along side the already present ALX folder which is the mod of Alexander to play in Rome as a mod. Then open your Rome folder you pasted in and move the bi folder out to the main Alexander folder so that it is alongside Rome and ALX.
Using the Steam launch options which are in that guide, the game will tell you specifically what files are missing or missing something internally. THIS is specifically why this is not cheating. The game tells you what you need where to do this and the biggest reason I have never made a mod to do this for people rather giving the instructions only. Just follow the guide and now you can play while connected to the internet without a conflict of too many used versions in steam.
NOTE: To play online against someone even for battles, they need to be playing from the same exact setup you are or it will not connect.
Just press "Launch" in the steam screen for rome 1 and a small grey box will appear in the middle of the pc screen with rome 1 then barb inv below that. Press barb inv, then play
*press button -- oh noes how does I do that?*
and here is included how to get Alexander assigned to your account
TBF a lot of people use desktop shortcuts out of habit so having no sign of BI in your game library (Alexander campaign by contrast appears separately right below Rome) and no option to download or install a separate DLC is a bit confusing if you don't regularly use Steam to launch games.
