Remastered version sales details
I do not work for CA or any gaming company. I help people with TW games because I love TW games. Sending me messages I cannot tell you anything more than what is published already.

Buying the remastered version is $29.99 if you do not already own Rome on Steam and it is both original Rome and the remastered version

If you own Rome on Steam, until May 31st 2021 the discounted price is $14.99 and you only get the remastered version.

If you have the game on CD and have your CD key which has never been activated on Steam, for now you can still add your CD key to Steam to get the original version and the 50% discount price as an original owner.

NOTE: FOR NOW the disk key can still be added. I cannot imagine a company so greedy as to change this as that is still an original owner, but these days you never know so do it sooner rather than later if you have a disk CD key.

Click Games, click Activate a product on Steam, enter your key.

They know most people interested in this remaster already own the original RTW, so clearly the "50% discount" is misleading, $15 is what the full price should be for what essentialy is a graphics update of a 17 years old game. It's basically a black friday scam when retailers increase the price by 100% and then apply a "50% discount".

Damn, 50% off, huge deal! CA is so generous

Between Rome plus expansions, Medieval 2 plus expansion, and Empire plus expansions I spend an average over 12 months at 20 hours a week assisting people work through issues to keep them running. Granted, Empire is mostly explaining how to remove the trash mods they download because someone else swears by them so that is really kind of easy. If Rome original simply gets a few new files and a new exe to work better with Windows 10 and new hardware along with the remastered version then the $15 or $30 people will pay will cut half of my volunteer workload as Rome takes the most time and to me that in itself is worth it.

Game developers don't go back and remake their old games out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it to make money, it is called capitalism. You don't have to buy it.

He has no idea what he is spewing. The game has clearly gotten a lot more than just a few new skins.
Haters gonna hate 'n stuff.

As a Canadian it's $39.99 or $19.99 on sale, and in my opinion $20 is asking a bit much for rome 1... sure, if you got a gift copy of the original with it I could see that it might warrant that price, but right now if you own the original you don't receive a copy. You only get the remaster.

Umm... what?

The FAQ[www.totalwar.com] states the following:

"We decided to remove the ROME: Total War purchase option from Steam to focus on the definitive version: Total War: ROME REMASTERED. The original ROME: Total War will still be in your Steam library, and if you don’t own it, it will be become available to you as part of your Total War: ROME REMASTERED purchase."

So what you are saying is in fact incorrect. Current owners of RTW already have (less than) half of the RTW Remastered collection. Considering RTW Remastered has more to offer than the original, makes me think it is worth the money.

Net price is what matter.

The only thing to enhance your post that I could add is for people to make sure they insert the - in between each xxxx when registering. Steam will not recognise the code without.

Oh no! A game that costs 15 dollars if I have the original game, which I actually do!

How could I ever afford to buy this game when I don't have a job and live in a basement?

Oh wait...I actually CAN afford it, including other functioning members of society, because I'm not like the person in this quote.

They didn't "remake" the game just merely fluffed it up because they know the historical-based players will scoop it up. So don't placate his frustration because he's not the only one frustrated by this "remake"........ :Attacked:
