Original Rome: Total War
How the hell do you get the original?! I don't want to buy the new "remastered" version... Kinda sad that they would do this quick money grab to trick people from experiencing this old classic...

Find somewhere to buy a disk or key then activate it on steam

Why did you not buy it in the few years it was available?
If people dun buy it, then what is the problem with what CA did? Real fans have the game. People that want the experience from a today-perspective can buy the remaster. Seem very reasonable to me and quite nice CA/Feral did a remaster.

Remastered has a better camera, higher resolution, nicer graphics, some other improvements, AND you get the original as well. For 30 dollars, you effectively get 6 games. I don't think that's a bad deal.

And no, they aren't 'tricking' anybody, they just bundled it with the remaster.

If you absolutely can't stand buying the remaster, buy a used disk on ebay.
When our movement "We RTW Players" talks clearly and we make a list of things and stuffs how they are it's normal that these things are going to be understood by people like the stuffs. Today we have to make things for this game, simple things or complex things, without forgot that stuffs. Now we imagine the remastered like a second step. But we are still in the first step by supporting the community of the original RTW.

Shame it does not activate on Steam. I have tried installing with Win 10, but it just hangs, as I believe the software is looking for the key code on the back of the manual. Not convinced about remastered. Will need to wheel out my old XP games m/c.

That's how it is these days. Update some textures and release it 10+ times the price. Easy money.
I was so happy with all these remasters a year ago, but now I understand... I haven't seen the remaster, I simply don't care.
Grab the old games you want while you still can.
For GTA III is also already too late.

You can find the original on Amazon or Ebay - but it'll be the Windows XP version. That's actually the version I prefer as you can mess about with it and play as the Senate which my things far more interesting. I'm not sure about this 'remastered' version yet as I've only just started playing it, but so far it 'seems' okay - given that 'remastered' usually means "screwed it up".
