Verify the game cache, start in administrator mode, start in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.
These should be the first things to do in case of that problem though.

You have to turn off Anti-Aliasing. You can do it with starting command (go look up in internet, I dont know the correct command)

Or navigate to game files, preferences folder then preferences.txt
Hit CTRL+F to find AA_QUALITY:.
If its AA_LOW or sth else, change it to AA_OFF.

Not a problem you dont have preferences.txt. Just download it from google(sorry im unavailable to give a link right now) and put it to preferences folder. Make the changes there.

I don't have preferences folder, so I've created one and put the preferences.txt into but nothing changed

-Sorry if this already been said.
I have the old CD v of RTW and I to was unable to play the game on my new Win 10 PC. I tired lots of things and for all the pain that goes with trying to mess around for hours.

I just got the new one on here from Steam for £7 and now I can play it fine. :) :) :)

The retail version of rome total war no longer works legitimately on windows 10 because securom is no longer supported. You need to search on the internet for a no cd patch exe file for rome total war then it will launch. This will also let you launch the game without the cd in the tray so win win.
