If you want a real mod, try this one. It was so good it got Lusted hired at CA.
i did it and i have the same problem
Next, go back to main folder, right click Rome.exe, and tick run as administrator and set compatibility to XP,
If still a problem, go to C:\Windows\System32, scroll down to the Ds and copy, not move, but copy the d3dx9 files, go back to your Rome main folder, and paste them in as copies. I dont remember right off which are required, but these are tiny files and the extras wont hurt.
If still no go, manually delete your entire Rome folder and verify your Rome through Steam to replace all files and follow the steps above BEFORE running the game the first time again.
Id you have lost your preferences file, once you run as admin it should generate a new one. If it does not, let me know and I will copy the contents of mine so you can manually make one.
