Rome: Total War

DarthMod
Playing the Darthmod. Finally got it working. Just had to remove the ui_1.pak file.

It offers a change of pace. Harder to advance, specially as favorite Greeks. This Mod recalls the XGM mod (which, conversely, favors the Greeks).

RTW - I is my favorite TW. The others are Awful travesties, almost as bad as the Civs & Paradoxes. MTW II is just toooo easy, and with much less triggering of ai controlled nations (boring).

This is not the time for negativity. Thanks to Darth for his Mod. Thanks to Steam - my favorite Toy Store.

Wish to reply to my previous comment.

Darthmod Sucks!!! It adds all sorts of additional 'content.' But Bigger is not always better. The RTW cannot handle the additional complexity, and the Modded RTW becomes a chore. If I want to work, I'll go out and get a job.

Units line up with difficulty. Cavalry going between their Own Lines, die, as if it were assaulting the enemy. The DM becomes a CHORE, rather than slightly challenging fun.

Conclusion:

I have tried most of the MODS for the major PC Games, & while the Mods add a spot of -change of pace- I have never seen a MOD that was as all around Good (Functional \ Balanced) as the original Vanilla Game.

There is something to say for professionalism, as versus well-meaning amateur Wanna Bees.

The XGM Mod, while it also increases the scale of the RTW Game, does not destroy the Game Balance, or the Mobility of one's Armies on the map. *Unfortunately-It adds much too much movement for the armies, and all but renders Roads meaningless.* However, XGM is the Least Bad of the RTW Mods (obviously my evaluation - and, after all is said & done, the only opinion that matters to a gamer, is Their Opinion).

For obvious reasons, Multiplayer human-vs-human is the most balanced way to go, as with the old Avalon Hill Board Games of a century ago.

DarthMod tried, evaluated, & erased.

i totally agree. i remember watching campaigns on youtube using dm and i really desperately wanted it so i tried installing. but i was only 10 so i didnt really understand what the "destination folder" meant so i was unsuccesful ad i was quite pissed...about a year later i understood what it meant so i decided to install it. and oh my goodness its so freaking awful. Some units like elephants and spartans are crazily op and many other units that were good before arent amazing anymore. they removed peasants (which even being useless are lowkey one of the most important units in all tw games) and a few other units. also in campaign the starting positions are slightly f***ed up because some factions have swapped settlements or owned settlements which they didnt previously own, agaim thi smight not seem like a it deal but it does really does really screw things up a bit...

People need to stop using this godawful mod. There is so many good mods out there that are still updated regularly.

Did try that mod one time no more.

People keep trying that mod before even trying the vanilla game and end up hating Rome 1 without even ever playing it.

If you want a mod worthwhile, try the one Lusted made which was so good it was the Rome CA wished they had made and so they hired Jack Lusted.

Lusted? Ain't he the one responsible for making the Thrones of Britannia?

I have not talked to Jack in more than 10 years since he helped me get permission to use the map from that mod in medieval 2. Would not know his area of responsibilities. So maybe he was in charge of the team? I do know he was part of the team that worked on it according to an article I read where he was quoted.

try out the greek mod its a decent change of pace without any real big impact on unit balance. it mostly affects campaign balance like egypt no longer being stuck in the bronze age and macedon and the seleucids getting levy pikemen instead of having to first use militia hoplites. also rome being unified is a big scary doom factor if you arent playing rome yourself. and some other small tweaks. it mostly lifts up the non greek cities greek factions and makes rome a bit of a different experience so probably wanna skip it if u really like to play the barbarians.
