Rome Total war won't start
Hello everyone!
I decided to get back to Rome Total War and play it's amazing campaign again after a few years.I have lost my CD version and I bought the steam version.
But I wasn't able to play it all because, at first I had that awful campaign map lag that i fixed with that d3d8.dll file fix. After I have put the dll file in the game directory RTW won't start at all.I have tried all the fixes that I have found on the steam comunity forums but to no avail. The game appears in the processes bar and even on steam it shows that I'm in game but I can't play the game at all.If I delete that d3d8.dll file from my directory the game will work but with awful campaign map lag.Can someone tell me what do?There is another way to fix that campaign map lag problem without that d3d8.dll file?Thank you in advance!

I figured out that the 1.5 version of RTW fixed my lag a lot.. I'd suggest trying out that version since it fixed pretty much all of my problems with the game. I have win10. Add me

Mine wont work either. Claims it needs direct x9 and I have seen ALOT of fixes about it. Its mostly changes from the preferences AA_Quality_HIGH to AA_Quality_OFF, but mine is already OFF at default when installing.

I dont have a clue here!

Hey Danuas, I found my solution to be another d3d8.dll file. The one that I used prior wasn't the right one, I guess.
I suggest trying to download this file and try again

Guys try the 1.5 version. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5Bvxv3uoHhuTzJSZTZyNFM2OXc/view
Just pull the 1.5exe out and replace the other one.

In your rome total war folder.

For everyone who can't start the game after downloading the d3d8.dll file, leave the file in the Rome Total War directory. Then, install this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
The problem was that you're supposed to have directx installed in your computer, and steam normally installs that automatically for some games when you run them first time.

Start Task Manager - Go to running programs. Stop the process RunDLL*32. This will close the running Rome TW Process and allow you to restart the game.
