Rome: Total War

Rome: Total War

Cursor lag?
When I'm on the map the mouse just lags so much and it is as if I'm dragging a dead cow along a road with nothing but string. The battles are fine and I can play other games alright but this is just so laggy. Anything I can do to fix?

You have an "i" series intel CPU I presume? Nope, not a thing...

I do encourage you to harrass Steam and CA with a support ticket complaint or even perhaps INTEL though that is all it will be.
I have the same problem with Rome Total War and yet I do not have that problem with Medieval 2.
I'm not sure how to fix it but it seems strange that RTW lags while MTW2 doesn't.
If you run a 1980 Lambroghini on unleaded fuel it will ping and not have enough power, but if you run a 2016 Lambroghini on unleaded fuel it will run like a scalded dog. Same kind of engine, different kind of fuel processing.
I have intel CORE i7. The cursor lag isn't that bad though, I started a Selucid campaign and quickly got used to it.
The problem is only a small percentage have the problem of a slowdown and then those that have it all have it to variable degrees somewhere between unplayable and annoying.
I found it on reddit, just download the file d3d8.dll and put it on the folders game, works for any others old-games compatibility
here is the file:

We went through this about 6 months ago with a kid showing up claiming it would work and it did not help anyone else at all.

Had another kid showing up talking about going into the XBOX window app and turning off the video recorder feature. Again, it helped no one else.

People have been grabbing at straws since Windows 8 came out only to later discover it did not fix their error either because the problem can be random and not every game. It can even change between fighting battles.
Well i just did and it works fine for me, greetings!
I will guarantee you it has nothing to do with a directX 8 file because Rome cannot even see the file to use it. It is more likely you either have something running in the background that was not running before or something not running in the background that was before. So please stop spamming a fix we all already know doesnt work and play for a little enjoying your lack of lag for the moment before it does come back which it eventually will.
I'll try it but according to the other guy might not work but thanks anyway

Please come back and post the results.
Maybe you should know a little about who I am. I worked for Microsoft as an outside programmer and consultant since Windows XP X64. I quit with Wndows 8, but I still know Windows inside and out. I am also the person that made it possible for you to even still be playing Rome as it, Barbarian Invasion, and Alexander were slated for blacklisting with Windows 10. In fact, when I accept the task of making it work, Alexander was already black listed. Blacklisted means when you try to install Windows tells you it is an incompatible program or app and cannot be installed. I have modded Total War games since about two weeks after Rome's release and have my own mods for both Rome and Medieval 2.

I guarantee you Rome cannot see or use that file unless you decompile the entire game and rewrite in the permissions to see and use that file.

So once again, please video launching the game without the file to show the lag, shutting down the game, putting that file in place without making any other changes, and run the game to show the lag is gone. If you cannot do this, I am sorry, but you are full of crapola!
^ Reading this mans comments literaly made me want to vomit, I don't think I have ever read anything more pretentious in my life. It's one thing to not have a fix, but to literally comment after everybody else and immediately shot down - wow, just wow.
Wow, you must be exceptionally proud of yourself for such an unhelpful, pointless, and self-deludedly smug comment.
Quite the Miranshah, aren't you?

Not that you'll care, but HazardHawk has been on this forum for a VERY long time doing his best to help people (and idiots like you) with game-related problems; this happens to be an occasion where even HE couldn't help, and he referenced his background soley to illustrate that prolly NO-ONE knows how to fix it universally.

Happy vomiting! :)
