Scanner Sombre

Scanner Sombre

Game not launching
Hey, I recently bought Scanner sombre and the game wont launch. I checked the files , reinstalled but still nothing. Official support doesnt respond to me so I hope I find help here.

Yeah, the same thing happens to me. The only bypass that I've seen work is to disconnect from the internet, then launch the game, and it'll run. However, this also prevents you from getting any playtime logged on Steam, so you can't review it and warn others about it.

This gets a bit technical, but don't worry, you can't break anything. You can always re-download the game after all.
Grab yourself a Hex Editor and open up the Games Executable. Locate the 4 bytes at offsets 99F183 to 99F186, they should be "48 8D 46 40" and replace them with "90 90 90 90". Save the changes and try running the game again.

Worked for me, again us Air Link or a cable, SteamLink didn't see my controllers.

I had the same exact issue as you and this worked for me, took just a few minutes.
Though the reason for the patch was different for the linked thread, the end result is that the game actually launches for me now on my current gen system

Same problem on Windows 10, I used HxD to edit the executable file and now it works.
thanks.

Please any video explaining how to do this thing? I don't have any idea about programming. I've tried to download a "Hex Editor" and to fix the executable myself but I'm not finding the string I have to replace. For now I'm forced to return the game because I can't play it.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

tried going offline, but no good. it just won't launch. I can't believe that taking a hex editor is the only way to go. did the devs disappear?

I found a better solution, at least for windows:

STEP 1: get Scanner Sombre executable location.
STEP 2: make a windows firewall rule that blocks "scanner sombre.exe" from accessing the internet.

That's all, the rest describes how to do that.

How to get file location: in your steam library right click on Scanner Sombre, hover over manage, click Browse Local Files. You can copy the path from the address in explorer.

How to create a windows firewall rule. There are tutorials (like one from howtogeek which I recommend because it has pictures), but I'll summarize here: click start menu, type "advanced security" and an option will be named "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security" (another option is to go to settings -> Windows Firewall -> click on Advanced settings). Now click Outbound Rules on the left, then on the right click New Rule, select Program, select This program path, paste the path in, type "\" (backslash) and append "scanner sombre.exe" (or press the down arrow twice until you get the right file), click next, click block the connection, click next, leave all checked, click next, name rule add description, finish it.
