Aura of Tranquility is probably the most powerful defensive buff in game but incredibly energy draining so almost requires you to use a Stew of Eldhrimnir charm in your chest to reliably deal with the drain.
The top tier Neidan skill that debuffs resists is great but the recharge rate is too long for my liking even with 40-50 recharge reduction it would only apply to every 3rd or 4th mob. Its nice to have for boss kills and probably is a better investment the the Terracotta summons. I like managing my summons though so I go that route.
I use a shield that give 900 energy so didn't have to put any points in that.
The effects go off as soon as you use a potion. Its worth maybe an extra point. If your build doesn't rely on attack speed then its not needed really. The increase in walking speed could be a QOL thing if you dont get that from boots and have points with nowhere else to out them.
But you would have to get your stun and trap resistances from equipment. Those are both critical. Defense mastery would have that with a skill of course.
Either way you need some decent armor to take a few hits. If you play as a caster, you could pump int, and then get enough dex to wear good dexterity req armor. Maybe 1 or 2 int based to balance resistances out and hopefully have some -recharge bonuses.
Playing either as melee would require the very elite types of armor and then you would go more str stats. Iv'e played Dream/Spirit as a hydrid melee and it works well, but it has awesome equip.
