Other than that, Warfare for pure physical prowess, I would keep the shield, with Whirlwind and Batter/Shield Charge, and Pulverize Procs you have plenty of AoE: not pure AoE but they hit several enemies, most of the time just enough. As weapon, Axes, Maces and Swords are viable, swords for the pure speed, axes for pure physical weapon damage, maces for concussion blow.
Dream for a more defensive/solid approach (Dream/Defense is the most defensive option in the game, while damage is not bad), you will need some extra gear help to get some attack speed.
Ehm.... is viable: brimsone and volatility rise your physical damage, a lot, but no attack speed and while some spells have a physical component, mostly is fire and burn damage. Also the AoE would be fire, defense have some tricks as explained though.
The problem is, this game attribute management is very tight for weapon and gear requirements, a normal physical setup is investing about 3 str each 2 dex, a hybrid build usually relies on requirement reduction from gear. Defense help with shields and armor, but the problem are the weapons strength requirement (we are talking about melee).
And for attributes, you usually save some points to cover requirements when needed.
All in all, is viable, could be strong, but definitively not beginner-friendly.
ok back to the masteries, dream seems interesting , ist that a magic class were i need to check that i got enough inteligence etc?
The core thing that makes it work so well is Flame Surge, which debuffs the enemies' Defensive Ability. As melee damage is dependent on the Ratio between your OA and the defender DA, this sweet little feature will enable you to hit high end enemies in Legendary difficulty - something that otherwise can be quite a problem for a Defense char.
Ring of Flame is awesome, but you'll have to either stack quite some Energy Regeneration, or you'll have to flip it on and off, while drinking a lot of Energy drinks...
Watch out for Hephaistos set stuff later on, it's just perfectly made for Juggernauts.
Skills-wise it's also pretty straightforward: you'll use Psionic Touch as your left-click attack (with Psionic Beam if you have Atlantis; the reduced charges part does work with melee weapons), Shield Charge or Phantom Strike with their synergies for right click, whatever Trance you need the most, the entire Lucid Dream tree, shield passives from Defense (the 3 right-most skills). Without Atlantis it'd look something like that:

I use Trance of Convalescence at first (helps with survivability when you're just starting the game), but you'll probably want to switch to Empathy (for a reflection build) or Wrath at higher levels.
Distortion Field is a one-point wonder. Leave Psionic Burn at 1 point at first too.
Quick Recovery is awesome with enough -Recharge, but is always good to have anyway, to put points in it at least halfway through Epic.
The Battle Awareness tree is pretty good too, leave the last skill at 1 point for the CC resists.
Rally is a good self-heal, not sure a Templar will need it for that though. Its last synergy works well with a reflection build.
Lastly, one point in Distort Reality and max Temporal Rift, for a great CC. Not much in terms of damage though.
Gear-wise, you'll want attack speed to trigger Psionic Touch and your shield passives more often, Chance to Avoid Projectiles will add to what you get from Temporal Flux but can be hard to get by if you don't know what to look for.
It's been a while, so I'm not sure whether I forgot anything...
oh thanks , i don´t have atlantis , so i will try your calculator link.
sounds pretty good! which skills should i go for first so that early gamplay and leveling is easier?
