To be honest I have no idea, but I checked my emails just now and the only Titan Quest purchase I have there is Titan Quest Gold. I have not been gifted anything either, and no steam codes from other places, like GoG.
But yes, the AE version is both of them made into the one game so you'll be playing both as you go through the game.
Anyone who owned Titan Quest, OG edition was given Titan Quest Anniversary Edition free of charge when it released, you were one of those people, that's why you have 3 copies. As to which to play, if you don't know what they do and what you want from the game, just play Anniversary Edition.
If you really want ALL the changes there's the original change log floating around somewhere, but for the short version:
- There was a fan made bug fix for TQ and the new company incorporated it into the AE version so pretty much all the old bugs were cleared up.
- AE has some random overleveled bosses scattered throughout the game as an extra challenge. None are in must do areas so if you wish to skip them you can and either totally ignore them or come back later. They are totally random so you won't see them on every play through.
- Balancing was tweaked here and there, some good, some bad. Supposely the first satyr boss is really hard now and the final TQ boss, Colossus has a different mechanic now.
- Leveling was over hauled when the Raganrok expansion was introduced so you level quicker now.
- Throwing weapons and new masteries were introduced with the DLC's.
Over all the AE version plays a bit better and it's the only version you can play the newer expansions with.
Also pretty much EVERYONE (me too) has reported that when they try to play the old TQ or TQ: IT versions it asks for the code key now, but there's no place to enter it unless you dig into the files and insert it into the base code.
So you might find playing anything other than the AE version problematic.
MUST HAVE? No. Nice to have? Yeah probably.
Ragnarok introduced a large Celtic themed area that I think others have said it the size of the base game, so a lot of content.
Atlantis is a side area with a gold sink gambling game and arena combat (wave attacks, last man standing, king of the hill type thing). It's been reported that the xp and loot are weak there.
Eternal Embers is a Legendary level area so you've either beat all you own through Legendary or create a new level 70 character to play it.
