I DID IT! No death legendary!
After deleting my conquerer 4 times in total after dying while trying to beat the game normal-legendary without any deaths, I FINALLY beat legendary without dying! Sadly in my screenshot my achievement didn't show... But it is on my steam profile. I pasted the screenshot of taking down Hades below. I'm not trying to brag or anything I just feel very proud of finally completing this achievement.

Previous 4 deaths were in
Normal - Typhon
Epic - Machae Hunters
Epic - Not pausing when I went to afk for a bit. Came back at the rebirth fountain...
Legendary - Dactyl. Even with farming up 60%-70% to all resists at least (Not counting bleed) the bum was able to 2shot me with his ability.

Kind of fearful of Dactyl but hungry for revenge I farmed my butt up to the point where I have about 828 str due to %Str gear and 6597hp with 80% in all resists except bleed... And well leech mana/hp because who really needs those that badly. I found Dactyl again 5 days later (Today) when I encountered him all I needed to use was a single health potion before he was dropped down to zero health. When I went to fight Hades I popped all my CDs (Including a scroll of Frenzy) and bursted him down to his second form in about a second. (I play on Very fast to make restarting bearable so might have been 2 seconds on normal speed) I quickly beat him down to his second phase. Once he turned into a ghost he didn't even have time to target my battle standard before he died. The full fight took about 8 seconds if I could guess and I didn't have to use a single health potion. Only a mana because my attack speed is nearly capped when fully buffed up and onslaught just tore through my mana.

Thanks for reading!

TLDR; Title says it all!

Adding my build I used for anyone who wants it. I took off my Stonebinder Cuffs to see stats without being +1.

Funnily enough about a month ago I had trouble and asked for help on my build and got it here! So a lot of this is stuff I was taught. First when leveling go 1STR:1DEX until you get to around 350Dex. Then switch to 1STR:1HP for the rest of your levels/quests. As for skills you'll want to level warfare mastery to rank 10. Along the way get 1 point in battle rage, it is INCREDIBLY powerful. One point in your horn, 1 in battle standard (When you get rank 10) 1 point in dodge attack and at least 3 in onslaught (LMB).
Once you have those you can go into defense and get armor handling maxed and battle awareness 1 pont. Keep leveling defense to max and as you do level these skills as you unlock them. Adrenaline 1/12 Shield smash 6/6 Resilence 1/6 Focus 6/6 Shield charge 1/12 (RMB) Disable 6/6 Defensive reaction 1/8 Iron Will 6/6 Disruption 1/6 Collosus 1/8 Pulverize 6/6. Once you get to this point you can decide to max Resilence, followed by Adrenaline and defensive reaction. Which will be up nearly 100% of the time. (+3 to skills with SBC gives you a nearly always up +81% damage and 26% speed) After that max Battle standard and fill in the rest of the points. Just focus on maxing resistances and use Demon blood/Aegis of Athena in your shield to max vit resistance. Aim for an attack damage converted to health weapon and a Physical damage/attack speed shield. Get a necklace that gives all resist+change to avoid projectiles. (I lucked out and got a 25% all resist and 20% change to avoid projectiles Prismatic Medallion of Guile)

Hope this info helped some! :D And I am using all green mob specific drops, no legendaries.

does it mean that warrior+defender is best choice? ;)

That is probably the safest bet regarding melee builds. However, ranged builds are usually better for hardcore.

My Ritualist is currently on lvl 29 on the Silk Road. For now, pets just obliterate everything, but i know it will be a lot tougher once i reach tigerman/draconians.
gz! i just one-shot myself on epic difficulty as a hunter, against an undead (quest) champion with reflect damage, found in a crypt near megara. one could say that i'm pretty pissed right now :steamfacepalm: *sigh*

Damn, that's really tough to handle! Chars with high damage always have that risk of catching up with something with reflect damage.

My Ritualist is lvl 41 now, starting Epic difficulty. I'm still with 0 deaths, but i got some close calls in Acts 3 and 4, as expected (i was aiming for the less than 100 kills achievement too).

The pets should be stronger now, so i'm expecting an easy game for a little while. Just need to be careful to not draw too much atention, since i'm getting Plague which causes a lot of mob aggro.
Very good! I hope someday i get that achiviement as well!

i've started a run as warden (defense/hunting). this will be another high (crit) dmg build but i hope to be better protected with my shield; since i read that reflected dmg is blockable. i will definitely max my piercing resistance this time. iirc i've had a negative value in that resistance while i one-shot myself last time. :steamsad:

ps: playing as warden is annoying, since i miss a continuous standard attack (for the rmb). i have to left click every single enemy :-/ guess i will make use of the bow skill, yet again (as spear and shield user :D)

pps: umm, nevermind. i got me a nice workaround. i set up an on/off macro for leftclicking like crazy. i have to point my mouse at the desired enemy at all times now and looting is picky, if you get the drift ;D but it works fine for me. i also have an auto walk now, in addition. yay!

i like pet builds, but i think it's hard to get decend items for, if you haven't pre-farmed them already with other chars, no? long time ago, i had lots of fun as a summoner (nature/earth) but i could've pretty much played without pets, since the only reliable dmg came from my fire skills ^^ i think the biggest problem with pets is aoe dmg. areal dmg is not dodgeable and kills them off pretty fast. the other thing is time; it takes some for them to pull aggro, unless you start micromanagement via selecting them by yourself. but then again... it's worth it in a hardcore attempt plus the new game speed option is really complaisant. ^^

I had a Warden in TQIT back in the days. It's pretty strong, and not boring to play. It lacks the LMB skill, that's for sure.

However, i'm trying combinations of masteries a bit out of the ordinary in Anniversary Edition.

I didn't farm for it, since i didn't import any of my old chars or items. But i started collecting rings and amulets with additional damage, and it helped a lot (i have a green puppetmaster amulet which gives +200 HP and +10% total speed to pets).

I also have now a artifact, gloves and boots that give +1 to nature skills (+3 to nature skills total), so having 3 wolves help a lot, and with Nightmare skill to boost pet damage and regen they somehow were more than enough to beat Normal.

I heard that pets get stronger in Epic and Legendary, so i just need to focus on getting high resists and use plague to help them and Briar Ward to protect me.

Well, just killed the Boar Snatcher (and Polyphemus a bit later), it was really easy.

I'm thinking this will be a walk in the park until Act 3. And also, i've just found my first purple item, Chiron's Loop :vikinghs:
my warden bit the dust. it was quick and painless. i got one-shot by hades' red orb (yep, the big one in his first form - not splintered) :rfacepalm: i entered the room, circled around him, waiting for the red orb and a opportunity to attack. after he threw the orb at me i got into melee range and got wrecked by an immediate second follow-up red orb to my face...

so.. i decided to stay away from melee chars in hardcore. and started a nature/spirit pet-master. i was curious if it'd be a viable class - and - holy :pooangry: it totally is!
after a start-up phase in act 1 i plain steamrolled act 2&3. act4 was pretty chewy, but no problem at all. killing hades was just mere formality. now i'm at epic difficulty, just rushing through all the areas with ease. it's simply a walk in the park - the playstyle is demanding tho.
i constantly have to do something, like healing, buffing, debuffing and kiting. i use refresh (decrease cooldown on all skills) as much as possible and summon my outsider whenever he's available. this build rocks and is so much fun to play !
stats are not important, besides to equip things; i don't attack myself, to stay agile. so i put 50 points in health , ~40 in INT and 5 in DEX, so far. i currently have ~5,7k life and neglect all the resistances (like -30 / -40). barmanu, a feared boss by lots of players, or let's say "respected" was a goner in about 3 seconds (on very fast setting - i don't ever turn it down, not even for bosses:duel:). i play self-found only btw. no items allowed from other chars :)

@OP: gratz; for other people having difficulty getting this. I highly recommend browsing through the archives of the official TQ forums for the original game.

Although there were some changes, mainly focused nerfing breakpoints and exploitable mechs, buffing monster HP and resists. Majority of the advice and strategies found there is still very much applicable to this version of TQ. Lot's of helpful people out there too.

If anyone needs specific advise on finishing Hardcore on specific classes feel free to message me. These are some of my successful Hardcore runs (pre-Annivesary) for referrence:
