The whole point of having a fully hidden map is to discover yourself every part of it. If you knew exactly where to go all the time, this game would be very linear and boring. A big part of the fun in it is to go around and find your way, as well as discover hidden corners where you often encounter mobs, chests and quests.
The minimap is very useful this way because it allows you to constantly have an idea of where to go to if you want to unblacken your map and check every square meter of it. I personnally always have an eye on it so I know where to go.
Let me advise you to explore your map and discover it 100% if this is your first playthrough. You will miss a lot of content if you don't do so. Once you finish the game you will know the map well enough to skip the spots you don't wish to go through with other characters.

Ok, you are right discovering is nice(i do so) but example in memphis there are 2 gates, giza and to fayyum, that gives you confusion which one you have to go first, which one connect to main quest.... if i knew which path belongs to quest line, i would discover first others and keep the other to last. (not only memphis, almost everywhere has 2-3 different roads i always go back to discover back if i realize i'm on main quest road, very annoying on normal speed)
