Is Monster Lure working correctly?
I just got this skill maxed in my Birgand since I noticed that by the end of Act 3 I'm getting damaged a lot, and it doesn't seem to be provoking monsters. For example, half the monsters in Olympus just ignore the lure and go straight for me or my traps.

yup same here.
you drop it and enemies just ignore it atack you
Use shift to place the lure FAR from you. If the monsters see you first, in other words, if they were aggro when the lure was placed, they will ignore it and attack you first.

I thought the Lure had a provoke skill? What's the point of using it if I can just throw a trap to do the same + damage enemies?

I know this is an older thread, but I agree that lure appears broken. It is very rare that I am able to get monsters to attack one.

Can you explain exactly how to do this? Unless they have changed the mechanic for lure, it only places within a small circle around the player. Have tested using shift with same result.

Even after all this time, I wonder why they choose to leave this skill in it's broken state. I just spent a lot of money on respec'ing some points to put towards maxing this out thinking it would be a great help, especially on the higher difficulties. Well so far it feels like I've wasted my time.

For one, the fact you can only summon them only 2-3 feet around you is a big problem since that means you have to go out of your way to body pull mobs towards it. Of course as a result of that, the enemies will usually end up ignoring it altogether and just go for you. Only a quarter of the time will enemies actually target it. So it's either broken or I'm missing something with it's mechanics. I'd like to make good use of it, but so far it's just been a total waste.

If you hold down shift while using monster lure, you can place the lure in a far range.

Have you tested this recently? As I said in my previous comment, holding shift while using monster lure places it within a short, 2-3 feet distance of the character regardless of where on the screen you aim.

Yes, I tested it a few days ago. I was able to place the lure more than six meters away from my character.

Works PERFECT for me

How many points do you have in it? I recall a range being stated. Maybe this increases per level otherwise it's clearly a bug for some people.

the last time I used monster lure was in TQIT, can't guarantee the same for TQAE... anyway, here my experience.
monster lure wasn't 100% reliable, anyway it triggered as preferential target something like 50% of cases. crucial is to not take aggro before setting the monster lure...
I did it this way: 1) cast monster lure out of mob range 2) cast traps behind the monster lure 3) get aggro with study prey
as said, the monster lure was not always reliable but helpful (when triggering)...
for example fighting the hydra: when the monster lure was not working i had to run around and cast new ones but once it triggered i could set my other traps...

Old thread. Bumping because of relevance: Monster lure is still pointless in 2020.
Taunt sometimes works, sometimes doesn't work, no matter how much time given and whether aggroing with your character directly or via study prey.
Placement is always randomly around your character - doesn't matter whether you use 1-9 on your action bar, any mouse button, are or aren't holding down shift for stationary combat.
Health of the lure is pretty low as this thing is already getting obliterated by 4 normal NPCs on normal difficulty despite being maxed out.

Monster Lure still works, just don't deal any dmg on enemies before Monster Lure provoke enemies to attack it first:
