Rogue - Blade Honing
Would be nice if this also affected Bows so those people like myself could go Hunter with bows and also combine it with the Rogue mastery skill Blade Honing.

Am I the only one who would like this?

Hunter/Rogue has lots of synergies even without this.
Besides it's called BLADE honing. ;)

Lol, I understand that :), but would be nice if it was different and gave an aura to increase pierce damage for all weapon types that use pierce.
Its not like the buff is THAT strong, but its still nice.
Could have been called "Weapon Honing" if changed.

Have'nt played this game in a long time and thought of going Hunter/Rogue since I've never tried that combo before, but that Blade Honing kinda putting me off.

Not complaining or anything, just a suggestion towards the spell in which I would have liked.
Couldn't be happier for the remake and free copy towards those who own the game.
I know what I will be playing this weekend with the wife :P.
Been too long since I properly played through this game.

so, arrows have no blades? how do they pierce, then? :) As far as I know, arrows have blades, similar to spears... only they are fired. And spears are actually mentioned in the function of that skill...

No, arrows don't have blades. They usually have something called "arrow heads" ;) On a more serious note: You wouldn't go around sharpening your arrows like you would with an actual bladed weapon.

yes they do. Since they are disposable there are also multiple arrow head designs. They can have heavy points for armor parsing, they can have 2 or more blades or they can have thorns so you can not pull them out....

not sure why you bumped this thread, but alright.
bows have the most piercing ratio of all weapons. this suggests that their arrows are meant to pierce armor.
these arrowheads are NOT the bladed kind. broadheads are relatively expensive and meant for unarmored kills. the arrowheads with better penetration are bodkin points, they are basically just fancy metal spikes, not bladed.

Yet the skill we're talking about increases piercing damage.

it also very clearly hones blades, as its name says. a bodkin has no blades.

Blades are for slicing. So the skill should be renamed. And then once it no longer has "blade" in its name, it can apply to bows! Problem solved.

the blade of an axe is good at splitting armor. and stab attacks with straight blades, like a gladius, are still pretty good at getting through armor.

Axes don't pierce in this game, and of course everything that's pointy is good at stabbing things. I honestly don't even know what you're trying to argue anymore.

OT: a skill that buffs all piercing weapons might make sense, but bows already have the highest piercing %, so I don't know if it really needs it. I feel like bows lack in aoe the most, not single target damage, anyway.

I know, disappointing that most games dont understand how axes were used in combat.

yeah, so?

no need to change blade honing.

arrow heads have blades on the sides
unless they are the strict puncture bolts only associated with armor piercing.

The main reason you'd use this skill on a brigand is for a spear.

Spears have a comparative pierce% to Bows and a much higher base damage range. They have the same base attack speed range usually, slow/very slow.

Breakdown of Spear Vs Bow:

Spear - Highend spears can have one of the highest base damage ranges in the game for a 1-hander, only thing that beats it are maces. They have high base pierce % that maces don't have. They can be used with a shield. Overall they're probably the strongest one-hand weapon in the game.

Bow - Highend bows have the weakest base damage of any weapon, comparable to swords, but with slow/very slow speed and better pierce %. All you gain is some range which is usually closed quickly by melee monsters in higher difficulty. The biggest problem however is the loss of a shield/secondary weapon...thats a huge loss in stats. Overall the weakest weapon in the entire game.

Conclusion: Bows need help, and probably need to be added to the skill as well. Rename the skill to something like Penetration and change the description to match.
